We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.Closing Date: 08 July 2024The RoleThe School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences (ECLS) is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Education with an interest in researching issues including educational policy, professional learning and practice, pedagogic innovation, international development and/or social justice. You will join a committed, flexible and innovative team within the school of ECLS. We offer undergraduate, taught and research postgraduate programmes, including teacher training and development. You will contribute, as appropriate, to teaching, supervision and tutoring ensuring an outstanding learning and teaching experience for our students.You will be an integral part of our education and research community, contributing to our research excellence in education through your research activities and benefiting from our close collaborations across the university and high level of engagement with the community.Find out more about ECLS hereFor all informal enquires please contact orThe post is full time, permanent.Closing date Monday 8th July 2024Interviews will take place on Monday 22nd July 2024Key AccountabilitiesTeaching & Learning

  • To provide high quality teaching and learning and student support
  • Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
  • Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
  • Contribute to curriculum development
  • Ensure all our students benefit from studying ina research intensive, research excellent academic environment
  • Provide education for life, that engages, challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated

Research

  • Conduct research that demonstrates international standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour in the subject area of education.
  • Contribute to the research profile of the ECLS by publishing high quality outputs
  • Pursue external funding
  • Demonstrate impact by developing research-based solutions to real-world problems and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work
  • Supervise PGR (postgraduate research) students in a research-led university

Other

  • Contribute to the Vision, Mission and Strategy of ECLS and the wider University
  • Operate as an active citizen in the ECLS community
  • To have a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and ethics, responsibility and sustainability
  • To support global activities and development
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching, and/or research, and/or engagement
  • Take responsibility for a defined management or administrative role such as Module Leader, Outreach Co-ordinator

  • Support our engagement and impact activities to promote partnership working and collaborations across both teaching and research, both within and outside the university.

The PersonThe level of appointment will be determined by your ability to meet the requirements of the person specification as outlined below.Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceLecturer Grade F

  • Evidence of subject expertise in one or more of the foundational disciplines of Education: Sociology, Philosophy, History, Psychology
  • Evidence or the potential to provide an outstanding educational experience, rooted in strong disciplinary knowledge that engages, challenges, and inspires our students
  • Ability to deliver research-led teaching, including assessment, making effective use of technology to enhance learning, and across undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.
  • Ability to contribute to the design and development of programme content and delivery
  • Evidence or potential for internationalising the curricula
  • Ability to develop and secure research funding
  • Experience of or capability to publish international and world-leading research
  • Ability to engage with external stakeholders, generating real-world impact from research
  • Evidence of developing an international research profile
  • Evidence of ability to contribute to the research of the Education Subject Group
  • Ability to supervise PGR students
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students’ research projects
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary working
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organisational, time management and presentation skills

  • Have knowledge around quantitative research methods and the use of appropriate statistical software packages (desirable)
  • Experience of working in, or with, business, the third sector and/or policy (desirable)

Lecturer Grade GIn addition to providing evidence of your previous experience of the criteria above, to be considered for a Grade G Lectureship you must also meet the follow criteria:

  • Experience of supervision of undergraduate and taught postgraduate students’ research projects
  • Substantial experience of designing and delivering high quality teaching and learning material, resources and activities for students
  • Ability to undertake a management and leadership role
  • A sustained international research and innovation profile and proven track record in international and world-leading publications
  • Evidence of developing and securing grant capture
  • A track record of engaging with external stakeholders, generating real-world impact from research
  • Evidence of your contribution to the Education discipline, across teaching and research
  • Experience of attracting and supervising PGR students
  • Evidence of active citizenship in the Education community

QualificationsLecturer Grade F

  • A good Honours degree (or equivalent) in a subject relevant to Education
  • PhD (or equivalent) in education or a closely related discipline
  • HE teaching qualification (or equivalent experience) (desirable)
  • An appropriate professional teaching qualification, e.g. PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status (desirable)
