The Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a 2-year Limited Term Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Computer Science position with a focus on information security and privacy. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.

Description of Position:
The successful candidate must possess the interest and ability to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in computer science and especially topics related to information security and privacy, in order to support teaching in our undergraduate and graduate programs. We offer both in-person and virtual sections of many of our undergraduate courses. Teaching assignments of faculty members is a collaborative process where we aim to balance the needs of individual faculty members and the needs of students. Service to the Department, Faculty, University, and community is also expected.

The successful candidate will be expected to remain current in the field through scholarship or research activities. Such activities can include, but are not limited to, publishing or presenting results of activities in the classroom, research in a specific area in computer science or related field, attending conferences or workshops, etc.

A limited amount of service to the department, faculty, University, and community is also expected and encouraged.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have earned a M.Sc. in Computer Science or a closely related area. Preference will be given to candidates with a primary focus and interest in information privacy and security. Candidates who are near completion of their program will be considered.

The successful candidate will be able to show the following:

A commitment to remaining current (in computer science or computer science pedagogy, especially information security and privacy) .
A desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom.

Description of Work Environment

Successful applicants will become faculty members in the Department of Computer Science. The department offers a variety of programs:
BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Data Science
MSc and Phd in Computer Science
MSc and PhD in Computational Media Design
Professional certificates and Masters in Data Science and Analytics
Professional certificates and masters in Information Security and Privacy

We are also developing an on-line pathway for our BSc in Computer Science. Successful applicants will primarily contribute to the software science components of the Department’s programs, but will also have the opportunity to contribute to other components and other programs offered by the Department and Faculty.
