Who We Are:

(CHI) is leading on the clinical and operational transformation of acute paediatric healthcare and consists of hospitals at Crumlin, Temple Street and Tallaght as well as an Urgent Care Centre at Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown.

Description:

Purpose of the Role:

The post-holder will provide as part of the consultant haematology team a comprehensive laboratory and consultative service to CHI, Crumlin, with its very busy cardiothoracic, general medical and surgical services, emergency department, and many complex subspecialty services.

On-call consultant cover, including all aspects of paediatric haemato-oncology, medical oncology and stem cell transplantation and laboratory advice of paediatric matters, will be run on a 1:11 weekly rota.

Eligibility Criteria

Professional Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory:

(a) Be registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the in the specialty of haematology (Clinical and Laboratory).

And

(b) One year certified postgraduate training in paediatric haematology.

The successful interviewee must be registered as a specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland before taking up appointment. Should the successful candidate not be registered as a Specialist at that time, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate. Should no suitable candidate exist, a further recruitment process may be initiated.

Skills, Competencies and/or Knowledge

· Demonstrate the ability to provide a level of clinical care required by this post according to the standards set by statutory bodies such as the Medical Council, College of Anaesthetists, Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and the Consultants Appointments Unit.

· Demonstrate a high level of verbal and non-verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate with patients/parents, colleagues, hospital management, other hospital staff and stakeholders from other institutions.

· Demonstrate leadership and team management skills including the ability to manage his/her staff and service and work with multi-disciplinary team members.

· Demonstrate evidence of effective planning and organising skills including awareness of resource management.

· Demonstrate a knowledge and undertaking of the current governance structures and anticipated changes with the establishment of a National Paediatric Hospital.

· Demonstrate evidence of computer skills.
