Company DescriptionEgis Road and Tunnel Operation Ireland (ERTO) is an Irish company established in 2005 and is part of Egis Projects Ireland. We manage the Dublin Tunnel, Jack Lynch Tunnel and the Motorway Traffic Control Centre (MTCC) for our client Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).ERTO’s responsibility is to manage all processes associated with the safe Operation and Maintenance of the Dublin Tunnel, Jack Lynch Tunnel and the MTCC. ERTO has an Integrated Management Plan incorporating a suite of ISO standards that coordinate the delivery of our contract obligations. Key Performance Indicators are tracked and reported on covering all elements including Toll Collection, Traffic Management, Tunnel Safety Management, Emergency and Contingency Planning. The tunnels are supported by a comprehensive maintenance and asset renewal programme. We are in the Dublin Tunnel Control Building on East Wall Road, Dublin 3.If you are passionate about leading high-performing teams, optimizing asset lifecycles, and contributing to the sustainable management of infrastructure, this role is for you!Job DescriptionRESPONSIBILITIES & MAIN ACTIVITIES:The Maintenance Manager is responsible for all planned, reactive and corrective maintenance in Dublin Tunnel, Jack Lynch Tunnel & the Motorway Traffic Control Centre. The successful candidate will manage a 24/7 Team of in-house engineers and technicians as well as and third-party contractors. The Maintenance Manager will develop, negotiate and execute support contracts for critical suppliers using the NEC contract frameworks. Maintenance works need to be planned and scheduled to minimise the requirement for tunnel closures and to meet the tunnel availability KPI’s.The Maintenance Manager will support the Asset Manager and Project Portfolio Manager as part of a whole of life Asset management Strategy.The position is predominantly based at the Dublin Tunnel Control Building and will also require travel to the Tunnel Management Building for the Jack Lynch Tunnel to enable the responsibilities of the role to be fulfilled.The Maintenance Manager will demonstrate leadership in delivering the Egis core values, being People First, Responsible and Creative. He/she will also be responsible for compliance of our Ethics, Integrity and Human Resource Management Codes.In particular, the position’s holder is accountable for:
- Responsible for management & delivery of the maintenance function for the Dublin Tunnel, Jack Lynch Tunnel and the Motorway Traffic Control Centre.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement among the maintenance team.
- Responsible for the development, management and implementation of the Routine, Preventive and Corrective Maintenance programme and associated improvement works.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy that includes preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal asset performance and longevity.
- Management of assets, equipment and supply chain. .
- Responsible for development and execution of the business continuity strategies to maintain critical systems and support services to ensure the tunnels and control rooms always meet the minimum operating requirements.
- Use data analytics and asset condition reports to develop predictive maintenance plans, extending asset life and reducing long-term costs.
- Oversee the maintenance of critical infrastructure systems, including ventilation, fire suppression, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
- Collaborate with the Asset Manager to ensure accurate and up-to-date asset condition records in the Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), enabling effective decision-making.
- Monitor and report on key asset performance indicators (KPIs) such as downtime, mean time between failures (MTBF), and asset utilization to optimize maintenance activities and investments.
- Responsible for the management of out-of-hours and on-call resources that support the system availability demands. Accountable for the Health & safety conduct of all activities under their control.
- Responsible for planning of all work and supervision during scheduled and unscheduled tunnel closures.
- Management of all aspects of the maintenance team located at both Dublin and Jack Lynch Tunnel including Technicians, Engineers, Planners, Administrators etc. including performance management and provision of training.
- Attendance and presentation of maintenance functions as required within the company and to Client and other stakeholders as required, typically monthly.
- Responsible for the development and recording of KPI’s, reporting and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements and compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 Quality management system, ISO 14001:2015 Environment management system, OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational health and safety management system, ISO 55001:2014 Asset management
and ISO 27001:2013 Information security management system and others. * Conduct periodic reviews and development of the Maintenance related documentation, Operation and Maintenance manuals and all associated Maintenance Standards & Procedures to ensure they remain fit for purpose.
- Ensure that all maintenance operations comply with health and safety regulations, conducting regular safety audits and inspections to minimize risk.
- Develop and maintain Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS) for all maintenance tasks, ensuring team members are trained and briefed.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the Tunnel Safety File, ensuring it is up to date with records of all maintenance works, inspections, and safety audits.
- Work with the Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Manager to ensure that safety, environmental, and quality objectives are met, and that maintenance practices align with ISO-certified management systems.
- Manage the maintenance budget, including labour, materials, equipment, and contractor costs, ensuring cost-effective service delivery.
- Work closely with the Asset Manager to forecast future maintenance expenditures and budget requirements based on the long-term maintenance plan.
- Monitor spending to ensure alignment with the allocated budget and adjust maintenance plans as necessary to ensure financial efficiency.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field (Master’s degree or relevant certifications such as IAM or CMRP preferred).
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in infrastructure, transportation, or similar industries.
- Extensive experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo, including planning, tracking, and reporting maintenance activities.
- Strong knowledge of ISO-certified management systems and their application in maintenance and asset management.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage large teams, coordinate complex maintenance activities, and engage effectively with stakeholders.
- A deep understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques and their practical application in an industrial or infrastructure setting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond effectively to unplanned maintenance issues and operational challenges.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in managing maintenance budgets and optimizing costs.
- Familiarity with sustainability practices in maintenance, such as energy efficiency and waste reduction.
- Ability to work under pressure and within defined timelines.
