Manufacturing EngineerPosition: Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Dorking
Money: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum + Bonus
Days: Monday-Friday – 37.5 Hrs a WeekDuties of Manufacturing Engineer

• Design reviews & Liaison with engineering – Participate in design reviews to ensure that for manufacturing & assembly constraints / considerations are taken into account. Champion changes to product definition to support ease of manufacture and lean methodologies leading to cost reduction & increased reliability.
• Process definition – Design & optimize layout & assembly processes (including PDI / est) to deliver efficient manufacturing process & logistics delivery. Define tooling required for assembly process and liaise with colleagues to ensure its on timely arrival to support production output. Support effective management of change with respect to process definition & documentation. Where appropriate provide necessary training to colleagues to support understanding of processes.
• Process documentation – Create and maintain process flow, PFMEA & operational documentation, necessary for assembly, (including process sheets; check sheets; traceability record sheets; test record sheets)
• Cost reduction – Maintain mast data within SAP for assembly routing including target times. Cost estimation via labour hours definition for assembly ; continually develop our processes to increase efficiency.
• Continuous improvement – Facilitate continuous improvement, through support of PDQC boards & participation in teams focused on lean strategies and methodologies in improving quality, reliability & cost.
• Faulty finding & issue resolution – champion swift issue resolution on assembly lines & at Test / PDI. Lead diagnostic (troubleshooting) activity within operations & support training of production operatives in diagnostics techniques. Support investigation of assembly related customer complaints; reliability concerns & PDI faults with cross functional production teams to gain improvement in process.
• Health & Safety, Environmental – Identify and contribute to resolving any Health & Safety issues. Ensure all tasks take into account health & Safety, environmental considerations in line with company policies, ensure that processes are defined with these requirements met.
• Willingly carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by the company.

Overall Purpose of Manufacturing Engineer

• Primary function of process engineer is to apply & champion continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability & cost-effectiveness.
• Responsible to define, set-up and optimize assembly processes including test / PDI.
• Maintain assembly process documentation including PDI through necessary changes (including ECN / Tact updates)
• Support product improvement & issue resolution through participation in ( sometimes leading) cross function teams to identify root cause & to develop/implement associated corrective actions
• To provide shop floor support in terms of product relation including fault finding.
• To represent production in cross departmental teams as voice of assembly ensuring key requirements in assembly are considered during projects.
• To support the overall output of the technology team including where appropriate supervising colleagues.
