What will you do?

We are looking for a Material and Logistics Coordinator to add to our Mobility Customer Service – VIA Rail – Toronto Team (on-site position). The right person will be highly organized, have a great attention to detail and excellent communication and follow-up skills. The candidate will be responsible for spare parts planning and ordering, assists in process development and continuous improvement activities, and operations support. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that project initiatives are met. This person will assist the engineering and planning group in material-related issues and perform warehouse activities at the customers project site.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe working environment
  • Plan overall material activities including system stocking levels to ensure required material is on hand when required for all material requests.
  • Apply forecasting methodologies to ensure material availability.
  • Analyze material consumption and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Collaborate with adjacent functional areas to ensure adequate material movements.
  • Assist with material identification/validation for maintenance activities.
  • Manage transportation budget and costs for the project.
  • Verify and maintain stock documents.
  • Manage inventory cycle count activities of material at locations, working with customers labor to perform.
  • Conduct physical inventory audits.
  • Coordinate material returns to vendors for repair or replacement.
  • If required and permitted, deliver parts to their respective areas.
  • Participate in material and logistics working groups for all project requirements.
  • Interface with customer for site related material issues
  • Coordinate with Siemens Central Material Planning and Siemens Central Warehouse for continued flow of standard fulfillment, emergency material needs and other material/logistics requirements
  • Manage performance metrics for site, including but not limited to impact of material availability to fleet availability
  • Ensure that defective core material is processed in a timely fashion, support Maintenance Planners for material support issues.
  • Produce daily reports for defined material status, evaluates and takes appropriate action.
  • Participate in the creation of new project requirement and process documents and monitor their progress
  • Perform transactions in SAP/CMMIS/Salesforce/SharePoint as required.
  • Communicate shipment progress/movement and other equipment related matters in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Maintain shipping policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Minimum required education: High School diploma, or GED required; College degree preferred.
  • Required experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in a logistics coordination and material management experience preferred.
  • ERP and/or MRP system knowledge and experience (SAP/CMMIS)
  • Strong experience in various MS Office applications (Excel, Access, PPT, Word, TEAM’s, Power BI, etc.)
  • Required travel: Approx. 10%
  • Other Requirements:
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Working knowledge of French desired.
  • The ability to work in a team-oriented environment while maintaining an individual workload.
  • The ability to perform job duties with a sense of urgency.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • The preferred candidate will have experience in the railway industry or corresponding experience in a related field.
  • Experience in managing conflicting metrics such as transportation cost and material availability for example
  • Familiarity with LEAN and Six Sigma concepts
