Job description

Mechanical Engineer Role.

Based in Longford

The purpose of this role is to implement overall organisation of the mechanical engineering functions within the company. The successful candidate must ensure that the necessary human, financial and material resources for the mechanical function is outlined and agreed with the manager. Promote best structural /mechanical practices across the group; in conjunction with each plant’s maintenance manager and operations team, review and take corrective action of the preventive and predictive maintenance program for all mechanical equipment. Ensure compliance for all statutory / insurance requirements. Become totally proficient in the use of all control/ maintenance systems used throughout the group.

The mechanical engineer will plan, organise, lead, coordinate and control all activities concerned with mechanical projects. The mechanical engineer will participate in the conceptual development of all mechanical projects and lead its organisation, scheduling and implementation. He/she is the key point of contact with the contractors and will build and create strong, assertive, and positive relationships. They ensure that the sites meet and exceeds quality, environmental, health and safety standards.

Primary Duties and Objectives:

  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve mechanical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for industrial purposes, measure loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Follow and implement the 5 stages of project management, Initiation, Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Close out Phases.
  • Obtain planning and or building regulations approval when required.
  • Prepare and allocate budgets for your allocated projects.
  • Choose appropriate materials based on structural specifications for each project.
  • Manage, record, report and track cash flow related to your projects.
  • Coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Inspect completed projects / installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Provide technical assistance to mechanical equipment problems within the company-owned facilities.
  • Issue repair reports at the conclusion of critical jobs for proper historical documentation
  • Identify engineered resolutions to recurring mechanical issues.
  • Work with wider engineering team to improve plant/equipment reliability through historical trending and improved maintenance procedures.
  • Lead and participate in mechanical failure analysis and vulnerability studies.
  • Execute mechanical equipment maintenance strategies (predictive and preventive)
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.

Projects.

  • On-site supervision and management of all civil/structural/mechanical construction tasks.
  • Civil/Structural/mechanical work needs and directives from contractors representative, Design Team, and Local Authorities, among others, must be supervised.
  • Monitor, measure, inspect, and report on work performed.
  • Deal with any technical and contractual issues.
  • Compile site progress reports on a regular basis.
  • Examine the Contractor’s work to ensure that it complies with the Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 and any relevant regulations.
  • Risk assessments and method statements are reviewed to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records/diaries of work completed and works in progress.

Mechanical Component procurement.

  • Conduct a survey of all purchases across the group of mechanical components to complete a comparison chart. This should include make, cost, model etc.
  • Contact relevant: suppliers to investigate the feasibility of reducing. the number of suppliers to one or two. Investigate the possibility of “consignment” stock and publish findings.
  • Aim to standardise components to a minimum of manufacturer’s, OEM.
  • Investigate stocking levels and lead times.

Machinery Directive.

  • Following the guidelines as laid down in Schedule 1 of the machinery guidelines, ensure that all new machinery conforms to S.I. No. 407/2008 – European Communities (Machinery) Regulations 2008.
  • Your main area of concern is CE marking, you will be expected to ensure that all machinery complies.

Technical design and costings.

  • Define the specification (based on the current Code of Practice) for all future projects within the group.
  • Set the group standard for the design and specification to be used for in all mechanical/structural project installations.
  • All designs to incorporate the company’s standardisation programme for mechanical components.
  • Implement the specifications/design/costs of all new projects that you are assigned to work on.

Verification of completed works.

  • Upon completion of project works ensure presence and completeness of all documentary records.
  • Raise and initiate actions on project completion certificate in line with procedures.
  • Co-ordinate signing off procedure.
  • Carry out post project reviews on process and personnel performance.

Reporting Relationship:

  • This position will report directly to the Engineering Project Manager Ireland.

Skills / Knowledge/ Experience/ Academic Requirements:
Essential:

  • 3rd level qualification in construction / mechanical engineering, and/or trades background.
  • A minimum of 3+ years relevant experience in a similar role
  • Awareness of operational safety requirements in a manufacturing environment and ability to apply and follow procedures and requirements as per regulatory bodies.
  • Experienced in AutoCAD.
  • Strong desire to be a part of a high growth company with an entrepreneurial spirit and a fast-paced, results-oriented culture.
