THE OPPORTUNITYAs the Medical Director, you will be responsible to steer the medical organization and provide governance for all functions related to Medicine (including Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Quality Management and Clinical Operations).Furthermore, you will ensure that medical and regulatory functions are aligned with local business priorities and needs, local laws, codices and regulations as well as with regional and global strategies, and in compliance with GCP (Good Clinical Practice), corporate policies and guidelines and SOPs.You will represent the medical organization on the Management Committee and will act as an integrated member of the global Boehringer Ingelheim medical organization through liaison with the Regional Medical Director.This role is based in our office in Brussels, and you will report directly to the local GM/ Head of Human Pharma.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead recruitment, development, and management of a high-performing medical team.
  • Strategically identify and prioritize medical activities aligned with company objectives and supporting global strategy.
  • Ensure the scientific expertise within the medical department.
  • Ensure local compliance.
  • Providing strategic and operational leadership for all Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory and Clinical Development & Operations activities in alignment with Regional Operating Unit.
  • Stay up-to-date with medical and competitive developments in relevant therapeutic areas.
  • Lead scientific and external engagement strategy for the medical team.
  • Manage budgets, headcount, workload, and productivity of the department.
  • Provide ongoing medical and regulatory expertise and input to local business.
  • Be an active member of Local Management Committee (MC) ensuring representation of all functions of medicine and working co-operatively with other members of the MC to lead and steer the local organisation to meet its goals.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD) and / or Master Degree in Medicine, Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Several years of experience in leading positions within medical departments of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in clinical development/operations and medico-marketing together is preferred.
  • Previous international work experience is required.
  • Knowledge of the Health Care System and the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Network with national/international Scientific Experts.
  • Excellent command of the English and French/Dutch languages.
  • Sets high standards and drives results by giving and seeking feedback.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders (local & international).
  • Strong in influence and persuasion abilities and a team-oriented outlook.
  • Able to challenge conventional thinking and established practices.
