As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who need extra help with their emotional and mental health to support their education.   • Provide intensive support to students with mental health needs, helping them manage their emotional well-being and engage fully in their education.
  • Assist teachers in developing and implementing individualised support plans for students experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Create a nurturing and supportive environment that promotes positive mental health and well-being.
  • Monitor and record student progress, offering regular feedback to teachers, parents, and mental health professionals, as necessary.
  • Facilitate open communication between students, staff, and families to ensure comprehensive support for each student’s needs.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of mental health issues within the school community.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in mental health support.

Requirements of the Mental Health Teaching Assistant:

  • Have experience working with young people in a supportive role, preferably in an education or mental health setting.
  • Have a caring and patient attitude, along with strong communication skills.
  • Have profound knowledge and understanding of mental health issues and their impact on learning.
  • Possess a commitment to promoting well-being and positive behaviour.
  • Can work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
