Freshfields is recruiting a mid-level associate to join its Brussels’s Data practice. You will advise global organisations on a range of data and tech issues. The firm boasts a leading international Data practice, with teams spread across Asia, Europe and the US.Freshfields is one of the leading international law firms, with a total staff of approximately 5,000 people, working across 29 offices in 17 countries. We provide a comprehensive worldwide service to national and multinational corporations, financial institutions and governments.With a team of over 160 people working in the Brussels office and 20 different nationalities, we offer a truly international working environment.Key Responsibilities

• Taking an active part in the development of a growing practice in Brussels and in our dynamic global Data and Tech team
• Working on and managing multi-jurisdictional projects, including data or cyber incidents
• Delivering ad hoc advice to international clients on GDPR compliance questions, data protection, data transfers, AI (including AI in the workplace) and other components of the EU Digital strategy (ePrivacy, NIS2, Data Act, etc.Supporting internal investigations and driving digital transformation initiatives
• Transactional work: due diligence exercises, drafting transactional documentation, advising on data-related issues arising out of corporate transactions, both in the transaction process itself as in the impact on the deal (legacy liabilities, contractual protections, etc.)

Your profile

• At least 4-5 years of experience in Data and Tech matters, preferably in an international law firm, consultancy firm or company
• You have an outstanding academic background
• You have excellent written and oral English language skills, in addition to a good command of French and Dutch
• An entrepreneurial mindset is key, with the ability to approach challenges proactively and creatively
• You are a team player, motivated, solution oriented, and with a sense of humor
