The Metabolomics Expertise Center (MEC), situated on the Gasthuisberg campus in Leuven, is a premier research facility specializing in cutting-edge metabolomics and multiomics (proteomics and lipidomics). With mass spectrometry as its core technology, the MEC excels in the comprehensive analysis of biochemical reactions in living cells and organisms.
Equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers integrated with liquid and gas chromatography instruments, the MEC delivers detailed multiomics profiling—including metabolic, lipidomic, and proteomic analysis—across diverse sample types, such as body fluids, cell lysates, and tissue lysates. This expertise is widely utilized by national and international researchers, significantly impacting (inter)national studies and driving the discovery of novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Multi-Omics (Metabolomics, Proteomics, and Lipidomics) Laboratory (Junior) Technician to join our dynamic team.Job Description
As a laboratory technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily activities of the MEC.
In greater detail, you will be responsible for:
Performing various laboratory techniques and procedures related to metabolite, lipids and protein/peptide analysis.Sample preparation and mass spectrometer maintenance.Collaborating with and receiving guidance from both senior technical and academic staff.
Profile
Preferably a Master’s degree in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, or an equivalent field.Flexible and willing to learn new technologies.Knowledge of mass spectrometry is an asset but not strictly required.Accurate and critical in your work and its implementation.Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently.Proficient in using computer software.Enthusiastic, social, and possessing excellent communication skills (English proficiency required).Eager to acquire new skills in biochemistry and technology.
