The Core Networking team is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join our Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Network Development Engineer, you will be responsible for building, deploying and scaling the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global datacenters.

AWS Core Networking is focused on building Data Centers and the network that allows Data Centers to function efficiently. We own the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and Data Centers to be interconnected. Core Networking’s goal is to balance efficiency, performance and reliability to allow customers access to their applications and data.

If you like to work with new technologies and optimizing existing technology and have experience participating in network/systems support for a large-scale enterprise or service provider environment -we would like to meet you. Key job responsibilities

Network Development Engineers will:

  • Be responsible for deploying network infrastructure across all of our network fabrics that supports the Amazon Retail Service, Kindle, Payments and multiple AWS services.
  • Deploy, scale and automate our network across multiple global datacenters. This includes existing footprints and greenfield locations.
  • Drive scaling of current network designs to meet the demand of our customers.
  • Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality.
  • Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production.
  • Create and update our network standards and ensure that the network is deployed to these standards.
  • Create and implement changes on the network.
  • Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume.

A day in the life

  • Automating network deployments using Python and internal toools
  • Review network designs with teammates
  • Work in a 24×7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
  • Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  • Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.

About the team

Frontier Networking owns and operates the network that do not fit in the traditional boundaries of the Datacenter. We serve internal customers that represent new AWS services that cannot be easily served by the existing networks, such as AWS Outposts, Ground Station, and Snow.

You will work in a team of NDEs focusing on deployment, automation, and scaling, and be part of a larger org with Network and Software teams. You will also interact regularly with our internal customers in partner orgs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large–scale network environment
  • 1+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments.
  • 1+ years Unix/Linux command line experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Server Load Balancers, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, LDAP, NFS, etc.
  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills; specifically, network performance analysis
  • Experience working with customers to diagnose a problem, and work toward resolution
  • Strong desire to build, ability to multitask, sense of ownership and urgency.
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills and ability to script in Perl, Python, shell, C or C++ is highly desirable as is a strong understanding of load balancing and layer 4-7 technologies
