Project Kuiper is Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Join us in delivering fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world.

We are looking for a collaborative and curious Network Development Engineer to build the routing and switching required to scale and operate a global Service Provider network. You will create ground-up processes, solve for complex scenarios, and be part of the team planning and deploying the terrestrial interface to a constellation of 3,236 satellites.

Key job responsibilities

• Continuously strive for operational excellence by seeking to automate away manual processes
• Ensure that all systems are designed to be robust, scalable, maintainable, and adaptable
• Build and maintain critical systems, tools, and workflows to deploy, maintain, and monitor network devices
• Integrate with existing systems such as trouble ticketing, dashboards, and metrics tools and services
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with other software development, systems development, and network teams.
• Provide support and incident response as part of an on-call rotation

A day in the life

A Network Development Engineer in Kuiper Network Services is responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and operating network equipment that enables broadband network systems worldwide. We define standards, select and test platforms, and design for resiliency and scalability. We work in collaboration with other teams for designing and delivering scalable, flexible, low latency, and high throughput network functions. We develop flexible and cost-effective solutions in support of connecting and peering with public and private networks.

About the team

Kuiper Network’s goal to connect users around the world is a commitment to not just establish networks but to connect customers to services. These services enable customer terminals and applications the ability to interface with the larger world. Our services come into focus for each Kuiper subscriber at activation from address assignment and name resolution to secure and programmable network functions. The Network Services team works backward from end-user’s perspective as we design and develop network functions that serve their unique asks.

Basic Qualifications

• 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
• 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
• 4+ years experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP network and/or networking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
• Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
