About the Team

About the Network Engineering team

The Network Engineering team is responsible for designing, building, and operating the global, intelligent network infrastructure to meet high availability, scalability, and high-performance requirements. By joining this team, you will gain marketable software development and/or network operation experiences in data center networking on a massive scale.

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate and optimize ByteDance’s global network, including backbone, data center, public cloud, and Edge/CDN;
• Work with cross-functional teams including but not limited to compute, storage, database, recommendation system, drive the innovation and evolution of ByteDance’s network;
• Work with external vendors and ISPs for device and carrier selection, perform testing and verification;

Qualifications

• Final year or recent graduate with a background in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline;
• Have a passion for networking and am willing to learn;
• Good network knowledge, such as OSI and TCP/IP model;
• Preferred to have basic understanding of routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS and BGP;
• Preferred to have basic understanding of network monitoring protocols, such as SNMP, sflow/netflow, Telemetry;
• Preferred to have basic understanding of how network devices work, such as switches, routers;
• Preferred to have basic understanding and usage of network related Linux system, such as tcpdump, mtr etc.;
• Self-motivated, good communication and writing skills, good team player;
• Good to have hands-on experience for major network devices, such as Arista, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, etc. is a plus;
• Coding/scripting skill is a plus.
