Job Summary

The Network Engineering-Senior Engineer is a critical contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers. You do this by drawing on your deep levels of telecommunications network expertise and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations.

As a DevOps Network Engineer, you draw on your breadth of knowledge and expertise in related areas of network engineering and actively apply agile and/or lean ways of working to deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Translate customer (internal, external or regulatory) needs and requirements, using technical principles into realisable products, services, or systems and/or networks infrastructure in a timely, quality and cost effective way
  • Design, build, install, test, integrate and maintain multiple complex network technologies, platforms and/or systems and their interaction with Telstra processes and systems to deliver products and services to customer business units.
  • Design and develop network services, device (H/W, S/W, Network, Compute, and Application) automation and leveraging a wide variety of open source and commercial technologies.
  • Perform Network Layer and System Integration testing and lead the defect management during the test execution. Also produce the relevant test related documentation (Test Plan, Test cases , Test Summary Report)
  • Flexible working hours to liase with the onsite Integration Engineer for the lab related activities.
  • Perform Network audits, Network Migrations (including writing and reviewing Change Implementation Plan and the Method of Procedure document).
  • Perform approved and planned network changes and network deployment activities during and after business hours.
  • Diagnose and restore network issues to ensure that networks, infrastructure, products, and services work efficiently and reliably (BAU & Rostered) – during business hours (as part of Routines) and after hours (as part of Recall) as per business requirement.
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills to authentically collaborate with mission or project team members and stakeholders to deliver defined work objectives.
  • Active participation and execution of Mission’s Agile ways of working.

Essential

  • 8+ years of experience in medium to large network integration environments in the capacity of design, and/or engineering including testing and implementation.
  • Solid understanding and experience with Juniper and/or Cisco routing and switching, and standard protocols like
  • OSI Layers, TCP/IP protocol suite
  • Network protocols (eg Ethernet, VLAN, Service OAM, DHCP , RSVP ,Segment Routing, OSFP, ISIS, MPLS, RSVP, LDP, BGP, MPBGP, BGP-LU, BGP-LU, VPLS, VPWS, L2/L3 VPN).
  • Network packet queuing (QoS, CoS, Hierarchical QoS)
  • Hands-on experience on traffic generators like IXIA and Spirent
  • Strong understanding in Network Migrations and Decommissioning work
  • Advanced knowledge of RDN networks specifically RDN Layer 2 and RDN Layer 3 Networks
  • Hands-on experience on Juniper Platforms like MX960, MX10k3, MX304, MX10K4, Mx10K8
  • DevOps engineering role, therefore incident/change management and Recall support is needed.

Highly desirable

  • Understanding of Agile ways of working.
  • Sound understanding of technology and solution lifecycle and how it is managed.
  • JNCIS/CCIE certification
  • Virtualization knowledge including working with Linux VMs and containers (Kubernetes)
  • Automation knowledge and experience – PYTHON and ANSIBLE
  • Experience in NSO (Network Service Orchestration) is desirable.
  • Experience in IT systems like SUPERDAM , IP-RDM , T-LIVE , CRAMER-LI , T&DM, PUMA is highly desirable.
  • Experience in large scale-out infrastructures working knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Hands-on Experience in approved & planned maintenance changes.
