GlobalNOC network engineers have an exciting role designing, deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting networks for client organizations across the nation and their connections around the globe. Specializing in 24x7x365 management of complex higher education and government research networks, using some of the most advanced networking technology available, you will have room to grow in your career as a network professional at GlobalNOC.
Established in 1998 at Indiana University, the GlobalNOC’s mission is to advance the future of research, education, and the public interest through the support and evolution of networks. With our staff of 120+, we provide comprehensive contracted network management services to over 20 large-scale networks. Job Summary
This mid-level position is situated in GlobalNOC’s federal/research network engineering team. You will be working with other technical staff, management, and customers to plan and execute new site installs and network hardware refreshes at existing sites.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Responsible for shipping and receiving logistics to remote sites.
- Develops plans for site installs by creating parts lists and methods of procedure (MOP).
- Travels frequently to remote sites across the United States and abroad. Over 50% of the year may be spent traveling for remote installs.
- Displays competency handling power tools, running cabling, troubleshooting physical network issues and working closely with local site contacts for site access, shipping logistics and troubleshooting.
- Ability to frequently handle moderately heavy (50lbs) network hardware and tool bags with or without accommodation.
- Assists remote technical engineer with onsite technical troubleshooting and configuration tasks.
General Responsibilities
- Provides experienced design, evaluation, development, and deployment of network system software and hardware technology.
- Identifies and resolves moderately complex problems, issues, and assignments in providing network operational support.
- Implements and recommends improvements to network performance and reliability.
- Performs experienced network analysis and studies to support the growth and expansion of IU-managed networks.
- Documents network engineering efforts (updates, new functionality, issue/problem resolution).
- Participates on project teams and resolves more complex network technical issues.
- Protects software by performing data-backups and coordinating network security measures.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Computer Science or related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of network engineering or related experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University

Preferred
- Experience with network device and policy configuration on Juniper
- Working with Ansible and Git
- Scripting in Perl or Python
- Experience using a trouble ticketing system

- Experience working with both AC and DC power
- Experience running fiber/copper connections
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Travel will sometimes be required to customer sites across the US to install, test, and turn up their WAN connections.
