The departmentThe Employment team is one of the leading employment law practices in the UK and consistently top ranked by independent legal directories, we have more recognised experts in employment than any other UK firm. With over 180 lawyers, Lewis Silkin’s employment and immigration team offers an unrivalled service supporting clients, including many of the world’s leading businesses, on their HR, employment and immigration law needs domestically and internationally.The work of the team as a whole is a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters, for a wide range of clients. The lawyers undertake a significant amount of business development and knowledge-sharing including giving seminars, training the team and creating content for various channels and publications. There is a significant international element to the team’s work, largely on account of its membership of the Ius Laboris international alliance of employment lawyers.Our Pay Reporting practice has grown significantly. We act for many large national and international employers in the UK and Ireland, and provide support with all aspects of gender/ethnicity pay gap reporting. We are also supporting a number of multinational employers with projects relating to the EU Pay Transparency Directive. We are seeking a Pay Reporting Analyst to support our continued growth.Objective of roleThe overall objective is to provide analytical support on gender/ethnicity pay gap reporting projects in both a fee-earning and marketing capacity. We want to work with candidates who can help us continue to provide a great service, who are able to help us explain that service to clients, contacts and third parties, and who can help us innovate and improve what we do.
ResponsibilitiesA typical day might involve analysing a client dataset and identifying the causes of their gender pay gaps (using regression analysis and other techniques), preparing a presentation setting out the results, presenting the findings to clients, and working on marketing and business development initiatives – for example contributing to written insights or podcasts – to identify new ways to grow the business.Other elements of the role might include:

  • Supporting Pay Transparency Directive services
  • Providing analytical support to other members of the employment team and our HR consultancy where needed. That might, for example, involve analysing and presenting survey or benefits data to assist with culture audits, or benefits benchmarking.

Candidate profileCandidates will have very strong Excel skills – this is a key requirement of the role. Candidates will also have experience in analysing real-world datasets, gained either during academic studies (such as statistics, maths, physics, or economics) or previous professional experience.Candidates will have a clear communication style (both spoken and written), IT skills, able to work in a fast-paced professional and friendly team. They must be highly organised, have a keen eye for detail, have a flexible nature, and a co-operative and willing attitude.Although strong analytical and quantitative skills are essential for this role, no prior experience or knowledge of working on gender/ethnicity pay gap reporting projects is needed as training will be provided.Essential skills

  • Highly competent advanced excel skills
  • Analytical mindset
  • Experience of carrying out analysis of large datasets, deriving insights from this data and communicating these insights them in an easy to understand way (either written or visual (graphs/charts), or a combination of both).
  • Interest in developing and new and creative tools to support our services
  • Experience writing for a professional audience
  • Interest in diversity and equality issues

Desirable skills

  • Experience working with HR / labour market data
  • Experience with using R to carry out statistical analysis
  • Fluency in an EU language
