Job title:

PhD positions Laboratory of Tumor and Development Biology (LBTD), GIGA

Company

Job description

Offer DescriptionThe Laboratory of Tumor and Development Biology at the University of Liège, Belgium (GIGA) has two opening positions for PhD candidates.Project summaries * The first project aims to investigate the effect of chemotherapy on ovarian function and develop better methods to preserve fertility in young cancer survivors (promoter C. Munaut). As survival rates continue to improve, post-treatment fertility has become a major concern. We are specifically looking at the gonadotoxic effects of chemotherapy, particularly the role of alkylating agents, to assess how different preservation strategies affect long-term ovarian function. The project will be divided into two parts. The first part will evaluate the mechanism of toxicity and ovarian function in mouse models and human tissues after chemotherapy and their impact on ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC). The second part will explore new pharmacological approaches to protect ovarian function, targeting specific pathways involved in drug toxicity.

  • The second project is related to cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) within the tumor microenvironment in metastatic lymph node (promoter A. Noel). CAFs exert tumor-promoting or tumor-suppressive effects on cancer progression through direct and indirect interactions with cancer cells and various stromal cell types. CAFs are extensively studied in primary tumors, but far less in lymph node. The aim is here to determine how fibroblasts (fibroreticular cells) contribute to lymph node remodeling in the establishment of a pre-metastatic niche and in lymph node colonization by metastatic cells.

TechniquesThe two projects rely on a panel of original in vivo and in vitro assays. It combines cellular, biochemical and molecular biology techniques (cell culture, Western Blotting, RT-qPCR, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing, mouse models…).ProfileThe candidates must hold a master degree (MSc) in biomedical sciences, biology or biochemistry (or equivalent). He/she will be motivated to commit to a PhD-program (2-years renewable), and able to work independently and to efficiently collaborate within a team. A good level of English is expected. Experience with experimental animal research or relevant experiment techniques in molecular biology is a plus.ApplicationThe position can start on October 2024. Please send your cover letter, CV and the name of 2 referees to Dr. Carine Munaut ( ) andProf. Agnès Noël ( ) before September 1rst, 2024.Where to apply E-mail[email protected]RequirementsResearch Field Biological sciences Education Level Master Degree or equivalentSkills/QualificationsThe candidates must hold a master degree (MSc) in biomedical sciences, biology or biochemistry (or equivalent).
