Position Job Title: MSC Pilot Engineer in R&D (Conversion Technology)Location: Gent, Belgium (on-site)Contract type: PermanentJob OverviewAs a Pilot Engineer at our Innovation Center, you are/or will become converting expert, with a good knowledge of wet chemistry (adhesives and coatings) & films and paper and their processing. You will advise a broad range of stakeholders in the selection of materials and processing set-up for new trial packaging materials. Your expertise will be critical in supporting and help optimizing formulations ensuring their compatibility and performance in various packaging applications.At the same time you are the primary point of contact for Product Development Engineers across the EMEA region and across all Amcor segments (such as Healthcare, Dairy, Snacks & Confectionary, Coffee,…), ensuring the successful execution of pilot trials and advancing our sustainable packaging technology. You hold end-to-end responsibility for all pilot trials conducted within the Converting Technology group.In this role you will be supported in taking full ownership of the following responsibilities:Assessing and processing incoming trials: Evaluate incoming trial requests for feasibility and relevance, providing expert advice and support to development engineers.Cross-BU technology scouting: Understand and monitor packaging and converting development trends across the various business units and ensure pilot equipment remains up to date to support new developmentsPortfolio management: Drive the development of sustainable packaging materials and portfolio simplification, promoting the use of recycle-ready building blocks across segments.Process Expertise: Working closely together with the Process Engineer, you are the go-to processing expert and advisor for conversion materials and technologies within the R&D community.Trial Management: Ensure the qualitative preparation, execution, and follow-up of pilot trials from start to finish.Work Order Preparation: Convert trial requests into actionable work orders for execution by our skilled Pilot Operator and Technician team.Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with management, external customers, internal stakeholders, and the operator/technician team.Training and Development: Provide training on conversion processes, best practices, and development trends to diverse audiences.Who We Are Looking For:Innovative Thinker: A highly motivated individual driven by a passion for innovation, with a keen interest in delving into technical details.Operational Mindset: Experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment, with a hands-on approach to getting things done.Excellent Communicator: Strong communication skills in English, capable of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.Detail-Oriented: Working in an R&D environment at the early phases of new projects, an eye for detail and precision in all aspects of work is crucial.Educational Background: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering (Material Science), Chemistry, or a related field.Experience: All relevant experience in an R&D or manufacturing environment, preferably within the packaging industry, is a plus.Why Join Us:Personal Development: Ongoing training and development provided by the experts in the field to help you grow your skills.Innovative Environment: Work in a state-of-the-art innovation center dedicated to pioneering future packaging solutions.Sustainability Focus: Be at the fore front of the development of sustainable packaging materials and technologies.Global Impact: Be part of a global leader in flexible packaging and help shape the industry’s future.If you are passionate about innovation and sustainability and have the expertise to drive cutting-edge developments in flexible packaging, we would love to hear from you.
