Overview
The Laboratory for Cellular Metabolism and Metabolic Regulation (Fendt Lab) is a young and dynamic team of researchers performing cutting edge cancer metabolism research with special focus on cancer metastasis and novel metabolic pathways. We exploit mouse models, genetic engineering, metabolomics and single cell & spatial multi-omics analysis to gain groundbreaking insights into metabolism as a driving force of cancer progression. Our work is published in high profile journals such as Nature, Nature Cancer, Cell Reports, and Molecular Cell. We have a strong international recognition and top collaboration partners all over the world.
The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology (CCB), located on Campus Gasthuisberg of the University of Leuven, contributes to the better understanding of the biology that underlies cancer initiation, progression and metastatic dissemination with the ultimate goal to develop more effective and specific anti-cancer (combination) therapies. CCB is currently composed of more than 200 scientists in 14 independent research groups and units. Our scientific interest lies in various hallmarks of tumors and their microenvironment, including inflammation, metabolism, genetic and epigenetic regulating circuits. CCB fosters an interdisciplinary environment and close collaboration with the Comprehensive Cancer Center LKI and the University Hospital, both located on the same campus, to promote translational research.

Are you interested in studying the heterogeneity of metabolism in cancer metastases at a single cell level? You have a strong background (PhD) in single cell/spatial omics technologies and implementation. Having successfully applied state-of-the-art genetic engineering technologies (such as CRISPR/Cas9, lineage tracing), molecular biology techniques including but not limited to western blot, qPCR, FACS, immunohistochemistry (IHC), confocal microscopy and cell culture techniques is a plus. You are interested in metabolism, tumor heterogeneity and metastasis research. You like taking the scientific and experimental lead on a challenging project. You can work independently but also like to collaborate within the team and other research groups. You aim for high impact and are highly ambitious. We offer
