Are you an experienced Democratic Services professional looking for a new challenge? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Principal Democratic Services Officer to join our Legal and Democratic Services team, reporting to the Democratic Services Manager.As the Principal Democratic Services Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the effective functioning of the Council’s decision-making processes and promoting democratic governance. You will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on constitutional and procedural matters, as well as managing a range of democratic functions including committee administration, member support and public participation.To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working within a Democratic Services function in a local authority or similar public sector organisation.
  • A thorough understanding of local government legislation, procedures and best practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with members, officers and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, demonstrating resilience in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
