Position DescriptionAsset Development is tasked with identifying, developing and constructing new investment opportunities on behalf of ESB Group. Both the Offshore Wind and Hydrogen team and the Flexgen and Storage team within Asset Development have successfully developed, or are in the process of developing, a number of projects in the UK and Ireland, and are actively seeking to acquire or develop further projects in both Ireland and abroad. Development activities comprise identifying and developing opportunities to enhance and expand the generation portfolio to achieve the ESB growth targets – bringing the projects from Concept Stage through to Financial Investment Decision.The successful candidates will be responsible for leading the development of Assets in Flexible generation, Battery Storage and System Services portfolios, working closely with team members across the various business units in ESB. The successful candidates will be highly motivated, innovative, commercially driven and have a track record of successfully delivering projects.Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to assigned project teams in the delivery of projects from early development phase and business case through to construction.
- Champion Safety across the projects by leading implementation of the safety management strategy across all projects.
- Ensure effective project delivery in line with ESB’s internal rigorous project management methodologies, achieving a consistent high standard of output from the project team which meets all technical, commercial, legal procurement and programme requirements.
- Oversee the assessment and development of new business opportunities such as brownfield/greenfield sites, application of new technologies and acquisitions.
- Ensuring that all project risks are continually assessed, reported and managed in line with ESB’s governance systems.
- Regular reporting to ESB AD management team and the relevant Project Boards.
- Be fully informed of industry issues which may impact on the choice of plant and ensure that this information feeds into the decision making process.
Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Minimum 7 years relevant experience.
- A track record in delivering projects and new business development initiatives, with relevant experience in managing the development of energy generation/storage projects.
- Experience of negotiations and commercial ability.
Desirable
- Knowledge of energy generation technology and experience of working with these technologies.
- Knowledge of the energy market and regulatory supports in Ireland and UK
- Knowledge of procurement procedures.
- Financial skill to appraise project returns and profitability.
QualificationsEssential
- A primary Engineering degree or equivalent.
Desirable
- Project management qualification and/or other business management qualifications that may compliment the essential/desirable knowledge, skills and experience listed above.
