Make your mark for patientsWe are looking for a Global Publications Lead Neuro & Rare Diseases who is a self-starter with strong problem solving skills to join us in our Scientific Communications’ team, based in our HQ, Brussels, Belgium or in Slough, UKAbout the roleThe Publication Lead is a key contributor to strengthening UCB scientific leadership in advancing disease and molecule understanding to our external stakeholders’ communities, ultimately improving patients’ outcomes.The primary purpose of the Global Publications Lead is to: drive the publication strategy and deliverables in line with the scientific communication strategy of the molecule and maximizing the value of the data tailored to each audience needs, and act as a publication expert driving UCB transparency commitment, as well as scientific and ethical integrity in data disclosure.Who you’ll work withYou’ll join a team of Publications Leads and work cross-functionally with a multidisciplinary team of experts and all relevant regional stakeholders. Externally you’ll work with a variety of stakeholders like external investigators, KOLs, vendors and medical communication agencies.What you’ll do

  • Leads the planning and implementation of the therapeutic area/product Strategic Publication Plan (SPP) for one or more UCB products (i.e. manuscripts, abstracts, posters, presentations in peer-reviewed scientific journals and scientific society congresses) in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external experts
  • Appoints Publication Planning Team (PPT) members, organizes and chairs PPT meetings, facilitates the development of the SPP with the PPT, assembles a Publication Steering Committee when required, and manages the implementation of the SPP in accordance with internal UCB processes/policies and external guidelines (e.g. ICMJE guidelines)
  • Drives the development of scientific communications and publications strategy for early pipeline assets that anticipate future development and provides grounding for future communication strategy.
  • Develops and maintains a high degree of scientific expertise in therapeutic area/product and considers therapeutic and competitor landscape in SPP development
  • Ensure scientific integrity of published data and that publications follow good publication practice, both internal and external standards
  • Upholding the highest professional and ethical standards, adhering to relevant international codes of practice whilst maximizing the value of information
  • Critically reviews publications to ensure that they are published to the highest standards and that all authors and/or contributors comply with journal or congress guidelines
  • Ensures that international standards for good publication practice are strictly observed and that all interpretation of data is carried out with the greatest scientific integrity
  • Advises UCB stakeholders on good publication practice
  • Ensures that all publications projects are delivered on time, within budget and meet quality metrics
  • Develops and manages the publication budget
  • Sources and manages appropriate external resources for generation of publications (e.g. third-party medical writing providers)
  • Defines metrics for assessing impact and reach of publications to optimise education of relevant audiences
  • Actively contributes to Sci Comms capability as part of the UCB Sci Comms Capability Building Community
  • Aware of latest developments in publications field and keeps abreast of publication guidelines and technology/new approaches
  • Leads or participates in the creation, implementation and maintenance of systems, procedures, and tools to ensure efficient, compliant publications

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills

  • Holding a master / PhD with an ISMPP Certified Medical Publication Professional certification
  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment
  • Personal publication record and proven ability to execute targeted data analyses
  • Experience in publication management and/or medical writing min 3-5 years (depending on the specific role)
  • Excellent understanding of Good Publication Practice (CMPP certification preferred) and other industry-related guidelines for publications
  • Strong scientific acumen; knowledge/experience of the assigned therapeutic area and type of population (eg rare diseases) is a plus
  • Experience in clinical/ non-clinical research, data analysis, interpretation and publication/ communication
  • Experience using pharmaceutical technology solutions ….
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (other languages an asset)
