Job DescriptionProject Description: Access to Non-commercially Available Medication in EuropeBackgroundAccess to medication that is not commercially available in a patient’s country can be challenging. However, various access possibilities exist in Europe, including early access programs, named patient programs, clinical trials, import via an international pharmacy, import derogations and even pharmacy preparations. Understanding and comparing these programs across countries can provide valuable insights into improving access to necessary medication.ObjectiveThe objective of this research project is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the access possibilities for patients to obtain non-commercially available medication in different European countries. The research will focus on comparing the characteristics of various programs, as well as price and reimbursement possibilities for the patient.MethodologyLiterature Review: Conduct an extensive literature and legislation review to identify existing research, studies, and reports on the access possibilities for non-commercially available medication in Europe. This will provide a foundation for understanding the current state of access programs in different countries. Interviews: Conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders, which could include industry representatives, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and patient advocacy groups. These interviews will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness, challenges, and potential improvements of the different access programs. Data Collection: Collect data on the characteristics, pricing, reimbursement policies, and patient experiences of accessing non-commercially available medication across different European countries. This data can be obtained through interviews, surveys, and analysis of publicly available information. Comparative Analysis: Analyze the collected data to compare the access programs based on their characteristics, pricing and reimbursement possibilities, procedural requirements, and patient experiences. Identify similarities, differences, strengths, and weaknesses of the programs in different countries. Recommendations: Based on the analysis, develop recommendations for improving access to non-commercially available medication in Europe. These recommendations can be targeted towards policymakers, healthcare providers, and industry stakeholders involved in shaping access programs.DeliverablesThe research project can result in any one of the following deliverables:A Master’s thesis that presents the findings, analysis, and recommendations in a comprehensive manner.A publication that contributes to the existing body of knowledge on access to non-commercially available medication in Europe.A comprehensive report that summarizes the research findings, analysis, and recommendations for a broader audience.Target AudienceThis project is specifically aimed at master students of European universities or recent graduates who have a background in healthcare, pharmacy, public health, law or a related field. The project offers an opportunity to delve into a relevant and complex issue within the European healthcare landscape, contributing to academic and scientific understanding.Duration and ResourcesThe research project is expected to be conducted over a period of X months, depending on the availability and resources of the intern. Access to relevant literature, databases, and potential interviewees will be provided by the company.
