Job description

To manage specific products and processes in the COE portfolio up to market readiness and launch, applying technical knowledge and experience in materials, modeling products, and installation methods.This role involves working with other departments such as M&T, Purchasing, and Manufacturing sites to ensure Vesuvius upholds product performance standards throughout the product lifecycle.The Research Engineer will stay abreast of scientific developments, actively participate in the external scientific community, and bring this insight into the company. The role is customer-focused, requiring detailed knowledge and understanding of customer applications and processing requirements.Requirements

• Full Ownership/Governance: Manage a product line throughout the value chain ensuring projects and products are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
• New Product Introduction (NPI): Execute NPI projects targeting global markets with Global Product Development (GPD).
• Project Documentation and Management: Properly document and manage assigned projects; escalate bottlenecks rapidly to management.
• Scientific and Market Trends: Stay updated with scientific developments and market trends to bring this knowledge into Vesuvius for improvements and ideation.
• Approval/License Management: Provide approval and license to regions for industrialization and localization.
• Collaboration: Work with key stakeholders including Operations, GPDs, Project Sponsors, Research Managers, and Centers of Excellence (COE).
• Governance and Auditing: Adhere to governance and auditing processes for recipe specification compliance, production standards, and product quality.
• Testing and Quality Control: Seek improvements to test methods and processes in R&D and plant QC labs.
• Product Expertise: Develop fundamental expertise in product application and value to the customer.
• Customer Engagement: Maintain a meaningful presence at customer sites and manufacturing locations to build and maintain a reputation for technical expertise and problem-solving ability.

Profile

• Educational Background: PhD or Master’s in Material Science, Chemistry, or a related engineering field.
• Practical Experience: Experience in R&D research, product development, or an industrial environment with knowledge of raw materials, bonds, binders, and products.
• Project Management: Experience managing complex research projects and product lines with demonstrated capability in articulating technical and business concepts.
• Action-Oriented: Energetic and enthusiastic approach to leading or supporting product development projects. Ability to seek technical solutions systematically, with strong planning, prioritizing, and time management skills.
• Customer and Quality Focus: Strong customer focus and commitment to product quality. Excellent communication skills, particularly in technical writing.
• Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to innovate and learn new technical concepts quickly.
