Job Description

The Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) serves as the research arm of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) research component. The research within the unit addresses five systems: Animal Systems, Plant Systems, Food Systems, Natural Resources, Environmental Systems, Social Systems, and Allied Research. CAFNR also includes the International Goat Research Center, Integrated Food Security Research Center (IFSRC), and Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Farm and Ranch. The integrated Nutrition Intervention for Community and Health Enhancement Laboratory (iNICHE Lab) is a cutting-edge laboratory where integrated and interdisciplinary research is conducted to inform research, teaching, outreach/extension, individual/population lifestyles, practice and policy decisions. The iNICHE Lab focuses on improving nutrition, health, and quality of life among different populations through community-based and clinical nutrition interventions using innovative technologies. The Research Specialist II will facilitate and coordinate research syntheses related to diet, nutrition, food and health. The role will lead the management of different projects and laboratory work including grant proposal development, implementation, monitoring, data acquisition, writing of research reports, manuscripts, and presenting findings at scientific meetings required to follow and meet quality standards and contribute to methodology advancement.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead proposal development for projects related to diet, nutrition, food, and health, ensuring alignment with key objectives.
  • Conduct high-quality nutrition and health research, including data collection, analysis, and reporting, while meeting deadlines and publishing findings.
  • Oversee research project execution, adhering to state-of-the-art methods and best practices, and fostering data management transparency.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (education, research, extension/outreach) within the agri-food-health system, while training and mentoring team members in research activities.
  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as deemed necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Six years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and Doctoral degree in nutrition, dietetics or related field.
  • Six or more years of experience in nutrition, dietetics, health or related research area.
  • Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, and excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with others.
  • Proficiency in STATA, R, or other comparable statistical software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
