RISC-V System level integration of digital AI accelerator

Job title:

RISC-V System level integration of digital AI accelerator

Company

Job description

Offer DescriptionContextRecent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and more specifically Machine Learning (ML), have enabled an explosion in the number of new ML models (e.g., transformer-based models like GPT-4). Additionally, these models are getting bigger, increasing the number of parameters that need to be trained. Hence, efficient training and execution (inference) of
these models has become a top priority for both research and industry.Imec is developing an AI inference accelerator with an innovative dataflow, in collaboration with academic partners. The goal of this project is at enabling system level performance modelling of the accelerator, in the context of RISC-V system-on-chip. The project would initially involve integration of the existing accelerator model in Structural Simulation Toolkit (SST). In the next phase, the accelerator would be programmed from a RISC-V based core and workloads would be executed in the accelerator. The compiler for generating the program for the accelerator would be provided by the academic partners. In the final phase, performance estimation and bottleneck analysis would be performed for some ML workloads.Objectives

  • Model the instruction memory and control flow of the accelerator
  • Develop an interface for integrating the AI inference accelerator using SST

(simulation framework) * Initialize and execute workloads on the accelerator using RISC-V core (modelled using gem5)What skills do you need to apply?

  • Experience with C++
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and compute architecture

What skills will you acquire?

  • Familiarity with hardware modelling and simulation using a state-of-the-art simulation framework (SST)
  • Experience with RISC-V accelerator integration
  • Following a scientific approach to tackle research problems

The project will be supervised by researchers at imec in the Compute System Architecture department. imec is a world-renowned research center for nano-electronics and digital technologies, based in Leuven, Belgium. The student is expected to work from the imec Leuven, Belgium campus full time for a period of 4-6 months, beginning as soon as possible.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsAdditional InformationWebsite for additional job detailsWork Location(s)Number of offers available 1 Company/Institute IMEC Country Belgium City Leuven GeofieldContact CityLeuven WebsiteSTATUS: EXPIREDShare this page
