The Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW) network is the heart of the organization and what makes it unique in the injury prevention community. The Network Manager serves as the principle liaison between SKW and the U.S. coalition network by ensuring the coalitions have the tools they need to provide education and awareness, as well as engage in advocacy, to prevent childhood injury. Reports to the Chief Advocacy and Network Officer (CANO) to develop a vision for the U.S. network, including but not limited to:

1) its organizational structure,

2) its methods of communicating with SKW and with each other,

3) how the customer service delivery system is improved and maximized, and

4) development of a sustainable continuing education program.

At the same time, keeps coalitions informed about SKW’s latest campaigns, continuing education opportunities, assets and other matters, and provides guidance on maintaining a ‘good standing’ status. The manager contributes to SKW policies, initiatives, activities, education and events affecting coalition capacity and growth. Possesses the personality traits to build the morale of individuals and organizations, and provide first-class customer service. The Network Manager represents the coalitions’ perspective and needs to SKW. S/he must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential, and possess a proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must be willing to travel.

The Network Manager will serve as an advocate for and liaison between Safe Kids Worldwide and the network by representing the coalitions’ perspective and needs to SKW, while at the same time recognizing the imperatives of the Safe Kids strategic plan and ‘business needs’. Responsible for conveying the policies and decisions of the organization to the coalition network. The manager engages in special projects associated with the optimum value of the network at his/her own initiation or at the direction of the President and/or CANO.

Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

Master’s Degree (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience

5 years At least 2-4 years of experience working in non-profits, grassroots organizing, or similar experience. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge

Specific experience with program management, grassroots organizing, coalition-building, grant management or other related non-profit activities strongly preferred; Demonstrated initiative and creativity towards building a grassroots network; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Strong people skills; Strong problem solving, strategic and analytical ability; Demonstrated skill in negotiating issues between people and organizations, including contracts and similar processes; Detail-oriented individual with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and communicate at multiple management and staff levels; Must be able to manage projects and be respectful of deadlines and adhere to time lines; Must be able to provide updates, status and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication; Capacity to develop skills to be a strong, motivating speaker; Strong organizational skills.

Functional Accountabilities

Coalition Recruitment and Resource Implementation

  • Collaborate with the CANO on the domestic network’s structure, development, coordination and evaluation. When needed, will consult about the international network.
  • Incorporate organization’s strategic plan for the recruitment of new members for the domestic network, and has primary responsibility for actual recruitment. This includes a micro plan for states without a statewide office.
  • Negotiate agreements with new coalitions and work to clear new agreements with the appropriate people with Safe Kids and CNHS.
  • Work with other department in developing resource tools.
  • When needed, will work on transforming documents for the International network.

Coalition Quality Assurance

  • Set a vision for domestic network performance standards, and has primary responsibility for insuring compliance.
  • Manage the process of developing domestic network performance standards through the design, administration, and analysis of a performance assessment tool (Profile).
  • Ensure the SKW network has access to necessary resources.
  • Lead the on boarding process for new domestic coalitions and coordinators, and provides them with initial education on Safe Kids practices.
  • Troubleshoot network issues.

Communicating with the Network

  • Have primary responsibility for communicating with the network and envisioning new ways to engage them.
  • Oversee communication with the network, including surveys, compiling and distributing biweekly newsletter other communications vehicles. Organize monthly state leader calls.
  • Stay up-to-date and aware of new technology for communicating and mobilizing a grassroots community.
  • Work with communications department to maximize and the ease-of-use and actual utilization of the Network Member’s Resource Center.
  • Work with the CANO to set a plan for Safe Kids Worldwide to communicate with the network in the most effective way.

Coalition Advocate and Network Support

  • Serve as an internal advocate for the network, working for their best interests.
  • Coordinate routine communication to Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW) staff regarding network activity, successes, challenges, needs and requirements.
  • Primarily responsible for the President’s Advisory Council to ensure its organization and advancement.
  • Collaborate with other SKW staff members to facilitate the requirements and meeting needs of the coalition.
  • Exhibit talent for encouraging, inspiring and mentoring individuals and groups towards improving their skills and moving towards a common end.
  • Provide general support to CANO, as needed.
  • Assist with the recruitment of department interns.

Coordination of Biennial Childhood Injury Prevention Conference

  • Manage various aspects of the planning and execution of the biennial Safe Kids Worldwide Childhood Injury Prevention Conference for all network members, including but not limited to the Awards luncheon, Roundtable discussions, break-out sessions, team building exercises and social activities.
  • Act as the principal advocate for the coalitions in providing content in which they are interested and need.
  • Work with all SKW departments to develop programming and content for conference.
  • Work with the Research Director on the “abstract” process.

Grant and Database Management

  • Work with SKW departments to determine requirements and grant distribution for the network support from headquarters.
  • Provide support in issuing network grants, assisting the Programs Department.
  • Manage and maintains the domestic network database and communicates key updates to SKW staff in a timely manner. Prepares reports upon request.
  • Act as a model for the effective use of Salesforce as a tool to manage the network.
