Under the direction of the Ag Supv 2, provide assistance for the field activities at the Animal Science Animal Facilities and Farming Operations. Performing major and minor mechanical work on trucks, tractors, utility vehicles, farm and livestock equipment, waste handling equipment, livestock and general type trailers, pumps, generators, mobile welding units and implements.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications – For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- No Minimum Education Required
- Experience with specialized ag equipment/livestock systems including swathers, harvesters, balers, bale wagons, track and wheel tractors with electronic monitoring systems, load sensors, and scales, wheel loaders, forklifts, water wagons, scissor lifts, tractors, etc.
- Experience operating a variety of implements such as discs, harrows, land planes, mulchers, rototillers, ridgers, etc.
- Experience in production or research agriculture with the ability to understand the difference between production and scientific research and adapt to new and innovative trends and concepts.
- Ability to fabricate specialized parts or apparatuses for departmental production equipment (farming and livestock) as well as fabrication of apparatuses for teaching and research applications. Ability to organize tasks, work in animal production facilities and record-keeping for inventory and equipment.
- Basic understanding inspection principles in a federal and state licensed production facility.
- Skill to perform preventative maintenance on a daily basis to check fluids and lubricants in equipment being used, along with other daily tasks as defined in the user’s manual.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to complete and maintain complete records of all duties performed along with a service record of all department equipment on a computer database and handwritten hard copy.
- Skills to prepare, plant, and harvest fields for forage production
- Skills to complete basic tasks in a federally inspected meat processing facility.
- Ability to milk cows in a state-inspected dairy.

Department Overview
Under direction of the Ag Supv 2, this position provides maintenance and operation of the Animal Science animal facilities. This position provides support for facility management, instruction, and participates in research and extension activities of the UCD Department of Animal Science.
Department Specific Job Scope
This position will operate various types of agricultural equipment ranging from skid loaders, wheel tractors, crawler tractors, harvesters, swathers, balers, etc. Responsible for the repair and maintenance of animal facilities and supporting units including: Goat facility, Horse Barn, Meat Lab, Lab Animal Facility, Dairy, Swine Center, Feedlot, Beef Barn, Avian Units, Sheep Unit, and Range Cattle Operations. May perform general animal care including feeding, milking, recognition and treatment of symptoms, harvest procedures and general husbandry practices.

Work Environment
