Senior Medical Scientist / Biomedical Scientist in Biochemistry department- Metabolic LaboratoryThe purpose of this post is:· To provide a safe, efficient, quality laboratory service in conjunction with other Medical Scientists, to satisfy the needs and requirements of service users neonates, infants, children and adults whose samples are tested as part of an Metabolic investigation panel or follow-up from the Irish National Newborn Screening Programme.· To support the implementation of a quality management programme which is patient centred and which measures and audits performance.· Assist in training staff, creating and promoting healthy working relationships.· As part of the laboratory team, progress assay and instrument verifications as the number of disorders screened for in the NNBSL increases.· Work with senior colleagues to progress moving the laboratory service to the New Paediatric hospital in St James campus.· Identify and implement operational processes to the standard of best practice in order to optimise use of resources.Essential Criteria:Candidates must, on the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the post, possess:Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree (Biomedical option) from the Technological University of Dublin, Grangegorman (A) orBachelor in Science Honours degree in Biomedical Science from the Joint University College Cork – Cork Institute of Technology course (B) orDiploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or the Cork Institute of Technology awarded prior to 1994 (C) orPossess Certificate in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or Cork Institute of Technology or the Galway/ Mayo Institute of Technology (awarded prior to 1997) (C) orA recognised qualification at least equivalent to (A) (B) or (C) above;andBe registered with CORU or registered with HCPC as a Biomedical ScientistandHave an ACSLM approved masters qualification in the field of Medical laboratory science orHave attained the fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical SciencesApplicants who qualified outside Ireland must provide evidence from CORU Medical Scientist Registration Board that their qualifications have been approved for Medical Scientist and meet criteria for recognition including CORU Application Reference number.In Addition:· Candidate must have at least 4 years’ experience in a Medical laboratory since qualifying as a Medical Scientist /Biomedical Scientist· Have experience working in a Biochemistry, Metabolic or Molecular laboratoryHow to Apply:Applications for this post must be accompanied by a cover letter, setting out relevant experience that illustrates how the essential criteria listed above is met.The criterion for short listing is based on the requirements of the post, as outlined in the eligibility criteria.
