Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Medical Scientist – Blood TransfusionLocation: South DublinJob Type: Permanent F/TSalary: 64713 -85,441Organisation: HSEWe are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Grade Pharmacist to come and join Ireland’s Largest Oncology Network. You will assist on the operation of dispensary, oncology, and chemotherapy services, and the development and implementation of clinical pharmacy services.The Pathology Laboratory in the Hospital is highly automated and computerised, providing a comprehensive analytical service to the Hospital. The service also undergoes continuous development in response to its development strategy and user needs.The Blood Transfusion Department, has a key role in the therapeutic support of oncology patients during their treatment at the HospitalThe Pathology Laboratory comprises a small multi-disciplinary team of staff in the disciplines of: Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Biochemistry and provides a full on-call service 24/7, all year-round. Staff flexibility is important for the effective provision of a year-round laboratory serviceResponsibilities:

  • Develop the Blood Transfusion service to meet User’s needs.
  • Be responsible for the Blood Transfusion Department of the Laboratory, the maintenance of ISO 15189 accreditation and continued compliance with the EU Directive for Blood and Blood Products.
  • Liaise regularly with the Haemovigilance Officer
  • Maintain throughout the Hospital awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all Hospital activities.
  • Actively participate in the improvement and development of services within the Laboratory in liaison with the Chief Medical Scientist and the Departmental Management Team.
  • Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the mission and values of the Hospital.
  • Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Hospital information
  • Be responsible for the quality of their work and Implement departmental development goals in line with those of management and overall laboratory management.
  • Participate in the work of the Pathology Laboratory taking day to day responsibility for planning, prioritising and supervising the work of the Laboratory.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of standard operating procedures or other Laboratory documents in accordance with the Laboratory’s document control procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science or a related field.
  • Current registration with CORU.
  • Possess a Level 9 Post grad Qualification desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines related to aseptic preparation and dispensing.
