Senior Network Developer 3 – Ai2 Network Operations (RDMA)

Supports the design, deployment, and operations of a large-scale global Oracle cloud computing environment (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure – OCI). Primarily focused on development and support of network fabric and systems through a combination of a deep level understanding of networking at the protocol level coupled with programming skills to support the intensive automation required to operate a production environment. As OCI is a cloud-based network with a global footprint, this support will include hundreds of thousands of network devices supporting millions of servers, connected over a mix of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet.

The role primarily involves using established procedures and tools to execute network changes safely, while occasionally developing new procedures as needed. The individual will serve as the technical lead for team projects, contribute to roadmap development, and lead the creation of new runbooks and methods of procedures. They will mentor junior engineers, participate in operational rotations, and provide break-fix support and escalation for event remediation, including leading root cause analysis (RCA) efforts. The role includes collaborating with networking automation services to integrate support tooling and frequently developing scripts to automate routine tasks. Additionally, the individual will support bug fixes for network vendor software and collaborate with vendor technical account teams and internal Quality Assurance teams to drive bug resolution and qualify new firmware or operating systems.

The role focuses on improving availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, scaling, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning for entire services and ecosystems. Responsibilities include ownership of several small projects and services, improving operational tooling, practices, deployment processes, and mentoring team members. The individual will modify the architecture of subsystems or services to enhance reliability, availability, performance, and scale, participate in architectural design reviews, and improve pipelines, deployments, and validations across components. They will own and enhance metrics, KPIs, SLOs, and visualizations, automate operational toil, and develop complex scripts leveraging domain expertise. The individual works independently on most projects, seeking guidance only for areas requiring experience in building and operating mission-critical systems in the cloud industry. They will develop safe-to-deploy changes, routinely serve in the primary on-call rotation, identify and remediate issues, lead RCAs, and suggest or implement enhancements to metrics and dashboards to improve operational performance.
