Make your mark for patientsWe are looking for a Senior Research In vivo Scientist who is innovative and agile to join us in the Epilepsy Research Team based in Braine-L’Alleud, Belgium.About the roleThe Epilepsy Research Team in Braine are looking for a highly motivated Scientist with experience working in a drug discovery environment.Who you’ll work withThis will be a lab-based position and will be reporting directly to the Head of Epilepsy Research.What you’ll do
- Support the development and characterization of novel mouse epilepsy disease models by bringing key experience related to animal experimentation, the assessment of animal behaviour and neurobiology. Previous experience in animal models of epilepsy is desirable.
- Responsible for the design and execution of in vivo studies for the validation of new therapeutic targets (eg genetic tools) and testing of new drug therapies (eg small molecules, gene therapy)
- Responsible for the analysis of in vivo studies and ensure the integration of complex animal data (EEG, behaviour, histology, transcriptomics, biochemical data,), performing statistical analysis and reporting study outcomes in written and oral communications.
- Represent epilepsy function in project teams to ensure coordination of in vivo activities in line with research strategy.
- In collaboration with the in vivo teams, develop and maintain state of the art electrophysiological platform for video EGG, qEEG and EMG recording and analysis.
- Manage a small team of scientists (Lab technician or master student) and provide training to develop the team capabilities.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- PhD (or equivalent) in neuroscience, biology, pharmacology with at least 3 years post doc experience or working in a drug discovery environment.
- European certificate for animal experimentation (FELASA) is highly recommended.
- Experienced in writing ethical protocols and reporting to the local ethical committee
- Strong technical skills regarding the use of drug administration methods (systemic and intracranial) and performing surgical interventions.
- Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize own activities to make the most effective use of time and resources.
- Good organisational skills and ability to coordinate activities across teams
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English
- Proven experience in the design of in vivo studies, data acquisition, statistical analysis and writing of study reports
- Knowledge in the field of unsupervised machine learning of animal behaviour and design of algorithms will be considered as a plus.
