They can be a Line Manager who will act as co-lead with the Team PO for overall delivery. In these cases, they will be responsible for overall tech delivery, line management & app ownership alongside their own software engineering output.. Others will operate as Individual Contributors, who are specialists in particular technology areas and will be narrower and deeper in focus.Job DescriptionJOB TITLE: Senior Software EngineerSALARY: £70,929-£78,810LOCATION: EdinburghHOURS: 35 hours, full timeWORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office siteAbout this opportunityBecome a part of our digital transformation journey and help us modernise our data environment!As a GCP Senior Software Engineer you will be responsible for modernising our data stack by designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, data solutions and data infrastructure on our Strategic Data Mesh Platform.You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient flow of processing of data while serving data products to a wide range of consumers to enhance insights and analysis. This is a hands-on role which requires delivery expertise using Google Cloud Platform data technologies, particularly focussing on Cloud Storage, Big Query, using containerisation (GKE) and additionally Data Build Tool (DBT) for pipeline processing.In this role, you will:Design and develop scalable, reliable, efficient and cost-effective data pipelines and ELT processes on the GCP platform.GCP Professional Data engineer certification essentialOptimise and tune data pipelines for performance and reliability, ensuring efficient data processing and storageEnsure data solutions implemented minimise cloud FinOps costsLead and mentor a team of senior and junior data engineers to deliverData Products in our Data Mesh Platform Present solutions and delivery progress to a wide variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.Stay up to date with the latest cutting-edge trends and advancements in GCP data technologies and be able to recommend improvements to enhance and optimise data engineering processes.What you will needExperience with both SQL and Java programming languagesExperience working in GCP, with particular focus on Cloud storage and Big QueryGCP Professional Data Engineer certificationExperience delivering on data warehousing, data lake or data lakehouse conceptsExperience working with containerisation (GKE), Terraform, CI/CD automated code integration and deployment pipelines using Jenkins, Gitops and Harbour In event streaming using Kafka, or Cloud Pub SubAbout working for usOur focus is to ensure we’re inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms.We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture.We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative.And it’s why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups.We’re disability confident.
