Course Code and Title: ECTB60H3 – Agri-Food, Cultures, and Translation

Course Description: From wheat to seafood, Canada’s agri-food exports to China are increasing and Chinese food is popular in Canada. This course explores agri-food, cultures, and translation using materials in Chinese and English. It gives text analysis in translation and hands-on translation experience from English to Chinese and/or from Chinese into English. Students must be able to read and write Chinese and English well.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chinese Studies, Sinology or related field (doctoral candidates will be considered). Native to near-native fluency in English AND Chinese as well as teaching experience in Translation Studies (e.g., courses on translating Chinese to English and/or English to Chinese). A record of published research in Translation Studies and/or professional translation experience is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have previously taught ECT courses at UTSC or equivalents.

Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours. This course will take place in-person at UTSC during the Fall term (Sept- Dec).

Sessional Lecturer I $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term $10,326.62

Sessional Lecturer III $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term $10,570.01.
