Organisation Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international NGO that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations, and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1,200 NGOs operating in 17 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands, with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

Job Summary

As the Software Engineer you develop INSO’s software applications. These include a world conflict & analysis platform, security alert mobile app and the portal that ensures only qualified users have access.

You should have a background in Computer Science combined with practical software development experience. You will work closely with the development team to engineer solutions for INSO’s system requirements. You must be able to handle dynamic changes in project demands and situations where refactoring is necessary – as global conflict is always evolving, so do the systems to continue to keep the humanitarian community safe.

Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or a relevant field) from a recognized academic institution
  • At least 3 years of professional development experience
  • Experience in Agile team management
  • Experience with software development languages such as Java 17 (Spring), Angular 14, PHP 8 (CodeIgniter), Solr 8, MySQL 5.6, CouchDB 3, Flutter 3, Docker and Kubernetes 1.28
  • Knowledge of modern web and client development with distributed system architectures
  • Familiarity with Azure and Active Directory, VM server management, DNS
  • Paramount attention to detail in application and data security
  • The ability to learn quickly and use innovative technologies
  • Communication skills in English

Nice to Have

  • Communication skills in French
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Prior humanitarian or NGO experience
  • Prior work in computer graphics with SVG web technologies

Terms & Conditions

Fixed term (renewable) full-time contract based in The Hague, Netherlands, €5,200 per month, 8% vacation pay (vakantiegeld), 2.5 days annual leave per month. We also provide Basic Premium Health Insurance with ONVZ. The right to live and work in the Netherlands is required for this position.
