Our Special Missions division delivers specialist aviation services to Government and industry customers.In late 2024 we will start delivering a Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue (SAR) service, which will operate 24/7/365 out of Shannon Airport, Ireland, on behalf of the Irish Coast Guard.About the role:We are looking to recruit Airborne Sensor Operators (ASOs) to join our growing team to help us deliver this new and exciting contract. The flying will be varied and challenging, this is not your average A to B aviation job.ASOs based at Shannon will fly on specially adapted King Air 200 aircraft flying alongside a Captain and First Officer, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on short-notice call. This exciting and rewarding role will allow the right individual to progress within 2Excel.ASOs are responsible for the following:

  • Pre-flight planning of assigned tasks.
  • Operation of all onboard mission equipment (Turret-based cameras / Radar / Communications).
  • Optimum positioning of the aircraft and sensors to achieve the task.
  • Co-ordination with other agencies over a variety of communications methods both in the air and on the ground.
  • Equipment troubleshooting and defect solving.
  • Post flight reporting of data collected during the flight.

About you:We are looking for candidates with the following skills/experience:

  • Operation of EO/IR/UV Gimbal mounted payloads.
  • Operation of multi-function Radar (air or land based).
  • Operation of multi-function communications equipment (UHF/VHF/Netted systems).
  • Operation of computer-based software driven mission systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate the Right to Work in the UK, have the ability to obtain UK Security Clearance and hold a valid UK Driving Licence.Please note, due to the training requirements for these roles, start dates for successful applicants will be July/August 2024 and they will be required to complete training at various locations within the UK until November 2024, our SAR go live date.What’s on offer:In return, we can offer a stable roster using four on and four off shifts, which will include nights, with a competitive base salary and night shift allowance. Suitably experienced candidates may be promoted to Senior ASO after 6 months and a satisfactory competency check, which carries a basic pay uplift.
