Connection has a fantastic opportunity through our Technical Staffing division for a Sr. Network Engineer in Nashville, TN. This is a Contract-to-hire opportunity that is Hybrid and offers outstanding benefits.
The Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, configuration, and maintenance of all data networks. This role involves leading initiatives to configure, install, and manage a variety of networks, devices, and services, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points. The engineer also handles the configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of phone systems, hosted VOIP, and Microsoft Azure. They monitor the performance of networks to ensure availability and reliability, develop and regularly update network standards, documentation, and network maps, and maintain their current status. Additionally, the engineer provides tier 3 problem escalation support and mentors other engineers in problem resolution.
Responsibilities
- Oversees all data network design, configuration, and maintenance. Installs, configures, and supports network and wireless equipment while applying company standards and documenting properly.
- Develops network documentation and network maps and ensures a current status.
- Updates network equipment with the latest approved firmware releases, patch systems and arranges scheduled upgrades.
- Uses various troubleshooting tools and skills, traces out fiber and CAT 6 cables across multiple IDF closets and patch panels. Labels and documents cabling and network hardware changes.
- Develops systems that integrates merging technologies into the environment, i.e., voice and data integration (VOIP), and wireless technologies.
- Mentors junior level Network Engineers, as well as provides support through complex troubleshooting processes. Assigns tasks to appropriate level of engineer as needed.
- Maintains a nationwide focus on the overall health of the network and ensures high availability and high performance of network solutions to meet business needs while
- while working toward solid business/IT related solutions.
- Maintains security protocols by updating hardware according to NIST standards to address vulnerabilities.
- Conducts and creates complete network baselining and documents data flows for all enterprise applications.
- Seeks issues that may develop in the environment, documenting those issues, developing a solution plan, and ultimately leading the solution’s implementation.
- Follows the program management methodology and works collaboratively on project teams.Acts as primary project manager in medium to large network design and implementation efforts.
- Manages problem and request tickets for assigned technology and ensures availability of supported technology.
- Domestic U.S. travel is required.

Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from an accredited college or university is required.
- Six years of related experience is required.
- Cisco CCNP certification is required.
- Additional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Must possess a strong understanding of network concepts, including Microsoft Azure, LAN/MAN/WAN topologies, VLANs, Switch Trunking Protocol, Virtual Port Channels (VPC), network subnetting, OSPF, BGP, Access Lists, Load Balancers, Wireshark, Orion SolarWinds, NetScout Ngenius, NAC/802.1x, Spanning Tree, and QoS policies, as well as Extreme Wireless Controllers and Access Points
- Knowledge of DNS/DHCP configurations such as Bluecat DNS and Microsoft DHCP.
- Experience with network hardware/software platforms is preferred: FortiNAC, Cisco Nexus (NX-OS) switches, HP/Aruba ClearPass and HP/Aruba 2900/2600 /5400 series switches, Cisco 9200 / 9300 series switches and Zero Trust framework.
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
