POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Network Engineer is a key contributor to the build and run operations of network/telecom services for Matthews. This role will define and monitor network/telecom policies, architecture and standards. This position is responsible for consulting, reviewing and approving network/telecom solutions, as well as executing the implementation of projects, upgrades and continuous improvement for network/telecom services. The Sr Network/Telecom Engineer will also drive the provision and maintenance of network/telecom services and drive analysis, and the resolution of major network/telecom hardware and software incidents/problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Defines, documents and maintains the network/telecom architecture and standards.
  • Designs and implements the future vision and strategy for the network.
  • Develops a global network/telecom integration / separation strategy for acquisitions and divestments.
  • Provides architectural and design input into business cases during project planning and initiation.
  • Provides technical review and approval for every network/telecom change proposed (internally and from third party vendors) in line with the relevant strategy.
  • Advises on the selection of major components of the network/telecom.
  • Develops and manages the testing and implementation of the recovery plan for the network/telecom, including initial emergency response and recovery procedures.
  • Manages and maintains network/telecom hardware and software.
  • Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitors and analyzes network performance and assure that agreed-upon service levels are met for network response time, and availability.
  • Responds to communications issues with the corresponding provider.
  • Interacts with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to provision telecommunication and network products and services.
  • Leads network/telecom troubleshooting efforts for major incident response to P1 and P2 incidents.
  • Ensures the quality of root cause analysis efforts for network/telecom related issues.
  • Assures IT asset, configuration and change management is practiced, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Aids in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and maintains current knowledge of plan executables. Responds to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Aids in performing security audits, legal discoveries and investigations.
  • Participates in network/telecom security solution development.
  • Develops reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Conducts in-depth research into emerging technologies and trends.
  • Plans, schedules and manages projects and resources of medium complexity and assignments up to six months of duration.
  • Manages conflict and handles disputes and disagreements positively and proactively.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • 5 – 8 years progressive Information Technology experience
  • Occasional travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
  • Relevant Avaya certifications
  • Cisco networking experience preferred
  • Industry Standard certifications preferred.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
  • Experienced with Standard IT deliver and process models such as ITIL, COBIT, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with messaging systems, network, servers, telecom, storage and backup systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with network security principles and practices.
