The nature of the Infrastructure Services department is heavily reliant on a variety of technologies where strong technical skills, problem solving expertise, and forward thinking individuals will thrive.
So, what’s day-to-day look like?
- You will serve as the lead engineer for the University’s wireless network, providing design and implementation support, and ongoing maintenance to provide highly reliable wireless services
- You will work with diverse wired and wireless networks, security appliances, applications, and processes, and a variety of routing and network protocols
- You will provide advanced support to the Network Operations team, and provide technical mentoring to enhance the skills and abilities of junior staff
- You will design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive metrics collection and distribution system for the Infrastructure Services Operations team, with an eye towards improved automated response and self-healing capabilities
- You will provide technical expertise in multi-faceted, complex projects that support the University’s strategic mission and enhance the student digital experience
- You will develop, define, document, and maintain IT Infrastructure standards and network operations procedures

Minimum Required Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree and 4 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and 4 years of experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year. Eight years of experience of in enterprise wireless network engineering; CWNA or comparable wireless certification; experience with Aruba wireless networks a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesKnowledge of complex computing and networking methodologies and technologies. Knowledge in administering an enterprise wired and wireless network environment. Advanced knowledge of network administration techniques and tools. Knowledge of wireless technology, local and wide area networking, firewalls, switches, internet protocols, and unified communications. Knowledge of wireless network survey, diagnostic, and monitoring tools. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities.
Ability to plan the implementation of short and long-range service and support of related activities. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with users, technical staff, management, and vendors. Occasional work after hours in an “On-Call” capacity is required.

Research, recommend, document, and perform configuration tests, processes, and standards. Perform surveys of existing and new wireless network systems and hardware, to inform and provide recommendations for overall network architecture decisions. Provide exceptional customer service and professional interaction, create complex and detailed technical notes, documentation, and knowledge base articles using ticketing and asset management tools while bolstering our operational credibility.

Responsible for continuous improvement of the environment through tools for automation, monitoring, and rapid deployment. Examples include but are not limited to recommending the use of specific technologies to solve discrete problems, implementing complex continuous integration and deployment pipelines, assisting with, designing, and implementing complex orchestration tasks.
