About the Role:

Optus are currently expanding our fleet of geostationary communications satellites with the procurement of several new spacecraft opening the opportunity for new technical roles.

The Satellite Support team provides the spacecraft engineering, performance analysis, orbit dynamics, networks and systems support for fleet operations, including those relevant to this role:

  • Design and implementation of the Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) systems used for 24×7 on-orbit operations.
  • System administration and upgrade of multiple mission-critical COTS and in-house software products;
  • Network management, systems monitoring, and problem resolution.

Based at our Satellite Earth Station in Belrose, you will be a part of the Satellite Support team providing technical support for the computer hardware and software applications for all phases of the spacecraft mission across the spacecraft engineering, orbit dynamics and satellite control areas.

The Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) systems, computer hardware and software, and network systems, that will be vital to control these new spacecrafts, must be designed, integrated, tested, and deployed ready for operation. This is an exciting position as you will be involved with the enhancement, expansion and upgrade of the existing Optus hardware, software and network infrastructure to incorporate the new systems and software required to provide operations of the next generation spacecraft.

  • Manage the specification, purchase and installation of server, desktop and network hardware;
  • Develop procedures, tools, and capability to ensure that the TT&C environment is properly managed and monitored.
  • Participation in the deployment of new versions of operational software systems both to development and production environments, ensuring that implemented operating system environments are compatible with the software. Perform monitoring and fault finding of the deployed software system and, where possible, provide resolution.
  • Support new software systems with different operating environments to those in the existing environment
  • Provide technical implementation plans with validation, documentation and deployment strategies.
  • Perform ongoing operational system level support for users of the software system and provide assistance to resolve user problems.
  • Identify, prototype, and develop operating system and other infrastructure for improvement of computer systems and spacecraft operations software.

About You:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related technologies.
  • System engineer certifications in any of Cisco, Red Hat and Microsoft are desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Operational Environments, supporting critical applications in Linux and Windows.
  • Demonstrable expertise in the system administration of RHEL environments.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of software configuration control and software release system design and implementation is desirable.
