Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon and the leader in providing secure, reliable, scalable, and innovative cloud services that help businesses across the globe scale and grow. The AWS Telecom Business Development team is looking for a seasoned Telecom industry leader with experience in advising, winning and delivering innovative solutions across multiple thematic areas for Telecom service providers.
This is a senior role, within the Asia-Pacific & Japan (APJ) team, to guide customers in accelerating their digital transformations, including building cloud-native networks, modernizing their traditional platforms and deploying new business models, complemented by AWS’ telecom-supportive technologies. You will help our telecom customers accelerate this journey by engaging with the customers’ business and technology stakeholders to create a compelling vision AWS services in their environment; helping them learn from examples of industry leaders, reference architectures and define what “great” looks like for their enterprise, technologically and commercially.
This role will be located in Tokyo, and will create alignment among customer stakeholders, address resistance to change and provide a tangible, executable vision to transition to enhance their business with the AWS Cloud. This leader will operate effectively at multiple levels of the organization and can address concerns across C-suite executives, IT/Network/Procurement/LoB leaders and established platform teams.
Areas of expertise will include most of the following:
- In-depth understanding across Wireless Telecommunications across 3G/4G/5G systems, standards & processes
- Granular understanding of the economics of wireless network operation including BSS/OSS considerations
- Experience across multiple cycles of moving network workloads to a cloud native environment from a COTS environment
- Thought leadership in most of the following domains: 5G, MEC, RIC, NWDAF
- Creating long-term vision to support joint GTM journeys; establishing strategic agreements and follow through frameworks to execute on joint plans, driving top-line revenue growth in joint GTM motions
- Experience with data architecture, data system and tools, related software, and data management policies and practices in a complex organizational environment
- Executive level proposal structuring, presentation & negotiation, including in consortiums with partners
You will represent the AWS telecom strategy and be the leading voice for AWS telecom-focused solutions. You will leverage worldwide programs, campaigns and work closely with the wider AWS business development, product management, marketing, solutions architecture, partner and professional services teams to position the AWS telecom data strategy for telecom customers and partners.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing business transformation and digital technology adoption thought leadership to Telecom customers & partners
- Conducting C-level executive workshops; engaging and leading strategic discussions with senior telecom industry leaders regarding networks transformation
- Helping Telcos identify transformational opportunities and driving adoption of AWS solutions
- Identifying and scoping high impact network transformation solutions with measurable business results for our customers
- Inventing and delivering new offers, collaborating with AWS professional services, service teams, partners, and Amazon product teams
- Providing telco thought leadership by participating in industry conferences and executive briefings
- Supporting our AWS Partner Network and key industry ISVs with their Telco solutions on AWS
The ideal candidate will possess a foundation of having directly led sales / pre-sales / consulting engagements and interactions at the highest levels of large telecom operators and technology partners. The candidate should have proven expertise at thought leadership, conceptualizing customer-centric solutions, convincing C-Level executives, CTOs & line of business leaders and IT architects, and having seen through successful sales to delivery cycles.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and long-term about the needs of complex global telecom businesses. The ideal candidate will also be deeply familiar with complex legacy IT environments, managed enterprise IT infrastructure services, telecom enterprise applications, and has done market analysis, deal negotiation/shaping, with an awareness of field enablement techniques.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements within the telecommunications sector experience
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- Bachelor’s degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience as a founder or executive focused on related segments, or as a practice leader or business unit owner
- Experience selling to Fortune 1000 or Global 2000 organizations
- Knowledge of big data businesses and technical concepts
- MBA
