DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

Install, repair and maintain all Telecommunications equipment including, but not limited to: Radios, Digital Microwave (MW), and Radio Frequency (RF) Data Link Equipment. Additional responsibilities include: 

TECHNICAL DUTIES: 

  • Install, assemble, repair, adjust, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment such as wired and wireless telecommunications systems devices, microwave, automatic equipment identification (AEI) systems, IP Networks, VoIP, Cameras, Radio Frequency (RF) Communications systems, Voice & Data communications, front and end of train devices, and soldering electrical/electronic components. 
  • Problem Resolution: Troubleshoot to component level; work with IT help desk to resolve trouble tickets and work orders for internal/external customers.
  • Recordkeeping: Record repairs in Repair Tracking System via computer; provide log history of Train Control System, as needed.
  • Configure and use various types of test equipment (i.e., Oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, DMM, signal generator, communications service monitor) to troubleshoot and repair telecommunications devices
  • Read and interpret electronic circuit schematics for the purpose of circuit board, component level troubleshooting of telecommunication devices
  • Perform inspection, calibrate, alignment and modify circuits and/or telecommunications devices
  • Configure devices using various platforms and communication protocols (i.e., windows, Linux, IP, RS232, USB,)
  • Configuration of IP networking devices
  • Advanced soldering Through Hole, and Surface Mound Devices (SMD)

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Extreme all-weather conditions

SHIFTS/HOURS 

  • Full-time – 6 days a week (5 regular working days (40 hrs/wk) and one on-call day) 
  • Subject to on-call (24/6), overtime, alternate shifts, nights, weekends, holidays 
  • Shift assignments are governed by union agreement, typically based on seniority 

TRAVEL 

  • Moderate 
  • Headquartered location with travel and work within assigned seniority region sometimes for extended time 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least 18 years of age, or will be by the anticipated start date listed in the job description 
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location 
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions 
  • Able to work the above shift/hours 
  • Able to meet the above travel requirements 
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English 
  • Able to work indoors primarily at a work bench, equipment bay, installation garage or Radio Frequency (RF) transmission facility 
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs 
  • Able to visually distinguish colors – red, blue, green, yellow 
  • Possess a valid state issued driver’s license 
  • Experience doing soldering work 
  • Able to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic diagrams and schematics 
  • 2 years minimum of verifiable electronics experience or post-high school training (Associates Degree in Electronics or Vocational Certificate in Electronics Technology)
  • Able to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling 
  • Able to climb on/off equipment 
  • Able to occasionally work on top of locomotives and other equipment 
  • Able to bend, walk, stand and sit occasionally with breaks 
  • Follow safety policies and procedures; wear required personal protective equipment 
  • Able to troubleshoot electronics circuits to the circuit board, component level 
  • Must successfully complete company administered Fall Protection Training 
  • Able to pass Electronic Technician II Qualification Test with a score of greater than 80%
