Telecom Technician in Morris, Illinois

We’re currently hiring Telecom Technicians with the following experience for a long-term, 3-5 year contract in the Illinois suburbs.

1. Experience with wireless telephone configuration, troubleshooting, and issuance (Avaya, Cisco, Spectralink)

2. Equipment installs and removal for network switches, servers, and other IT equipment in data closets

3. Infrastructure cable includes, but not limited to Cat3/5e/6/6A, multi-mode/single-mode fiber optic, coaxial, alarm and other low voltage or optical cabling. Pertaining to existing installations, not including new project work

Description:

Technicians in this role will receive their CWA Union Card to work providing onsite field support (smart hands) for Network and Telephony services at customer locations. Hours for this role will be 8am-5pm, with opportunities to work after hours and overtime for additional support.

Technicians will work to support onsite level 3 engineers for all incidents (p1-p4) and service requests that require potential part replacement or on-premises support. They will triage tickets and create detailed break/fix documentation that properly supports the resolution of the ticket.

Other tasks of the role include:

• Resolving Incidents and completing Tasks associated with Network Services equipment and telecom devices by providing on-premises support

• Resolve tickets within ticketing system and provide updates along with clear notes (ServiceNow experience a plus)

• Provide smart hands support for Telecom gateways/servers, channel banks, and data switches

• Provide smart hands support for Analog/Digital/IP telephones (Wireless telephone configuration, troubleshooting, issuance. IE Spectralink, Cisco)

• Perform wireless telephone configuration, troubleshooting, and issuance.

• Provide physical Install, Move, Add, Change, Decommission (IMACD) support for telecom and network services support

• Provide smart hands support with infrastructure cabling work including, but not limited to Cat3/5e/6/6A, multi-mode/single-mode fiber optic, coaxial, alarm and other low voltage or optical cabling pertaining to existing installations, not including new project work

• Support mounting of Access Points to support the wireless infrastructure as required

• Provide break/fix for UPS equipment including battery replacement and perform troubleshooting

• Perform IMACD for network switches, servers, and other IT equipment in data closets

• Work on incident tickets and create detailed break/fix documentation that properly supports the resolution of the ticket

• Smart hands support for telecom gateways/servers, channel banks, and data switches

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

1. Analog/Digital/IP telephones

2. Wireless telephone configuration, troubleshooting, and issuance. IE Spectralink, Cisco

3. Telecom gateways/servers, channel banks, and data switches

4. Equipment installs and removal for network switches, servers, and other IT equipment in data closets.

5. Mounting of Access Points to support the wireless infrastructure

6. Break/fix for UPS equipment including battery replacement, troubleshooting, and device refresh

7. Infrastructure cable includes, but not limited to Cat3/5e/6/6A, multi-mode/single-mode fiber optic, coaxial, alarm and other low voltage or optical cabling. Pertaining to existing installations, not including new project work

8. Document incident tickets and create detailed break/fix documentation that properly supports the resolution of the ticket.
