SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is transforming its Telecoms function! Telecoms are a key part of the network’s business and a cornerstone in the evolution towards Net Zero.

We are recruiting an experienced Change Management Engineer (Telecoms) to join us in this journey to create a new telecoms operating model by overseeing and coordinating change whilst promoting stability across the operational telecoms network.

You’ll lead change activity and provide in-depth technical analysis and approvals to establish a safe and integral telecommunications network. It’s an opportunity for you join at inception and be responsible for implementing efficient and effective change management processes to minimise disruption to services.

What you’ll be doing

As the Change Management Engineer, you’ll be responsible for, but not limited too

  • Change Control: Develop, implement, and monitor ITIL change management processes and artefacts, and promote the development of best practice to maximise the accuracy and efficacy of change.
  • Change Governance: Take ownership of Change Advisory Board (CAB) governance and present changes at CAB, reviewing all planned change information and lead communication of change impacts to stakeholders. You’ll be the main point of contract for all related activity.
  • Policies and Standards: Develop, maintain, and continually improve change related standards, policies, templates, and work instructions and promote stakeholder compliance.
  • Horizon Scanning: Collaborate with external third parties to understand externally mandated network change and coordinate teams to mitigate adverse impact.
  • Process Efficiency: Develop KPIs and process improvements to manage and promote clear method statements and solutions to achieve first time fix, minimising volumes of roll-back /repeat site visits.
  • Metrics: Implement systems and processes to measure and monitor the productivity of teams and tasks against Service Level Agreements, risk assessments and average time per change.
  • Reporting: Prepare, maintain data and report on monthly change metrics
  • System Updates: Ensure CMDB (configuration data, physical & logical network designs etc.) accuracy and currency is maintained and change-related adjustments are validated.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for candidates with an understanding of operational telecoms networks and architectures –including legacy and current transmission (SDH/PDH, MPLS-TP, optical, IP, Ethernet) and wireless/mobile.

Experience in change management models, ITIL best practice, and developing and maintaining change governance is essential.

Candidates with experience of leading Change Advisory Board and managing the change calendar plus related items.

Experience of producing regular reporting on metrics and business impact.

Experience in engaging and managing a broad and diverse group of stakeholders, including senior management, external parties and preferably in a regulated environment.

Understanding of process engineering with ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implementation of enhancements.

Managing change in an operational telecoms’ context desirable.
