Telecoms Technician
Position Overview
The Telecoms Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of all communication systems installed and operated by Speedcast’s clients.
Responsibilities
- Provide maintenance support including but not limited to: equipment alignment, substitution, and repair necessary to maintain systems to and within the manufacturers’ specification and to the required performance standards as described in the client operational integrity and verification scheme, (OIAVS). This shall also apply to all future additional equipment and/or service as and when implemented or required.
- Carry out planned maintenance routines as defined in the client maintenance procedures and schedule.
- The elimination of Telecommunications faults as they occur.
- The installation and modification of equipment under the client change control and modification procedures.
- Provide front line support for IT equipment & support onshore ‘Helpdesk’ (plus others) to resolve IT issues onboard. Regular server back-ups as directed by the Helpdesk.
- Ensure safety critical systems are fully operational (and backed up) at all times as per client requirements. (OIAVS).
- Report to platform OIM and Onshore Telecoms Support, any abnormal occurrence or equipment failure potentially endangering the integrity of the installation or personnel.
- Amendment of system diagrams/documents as appropriate when authorised changes are carried out under the client change control and modification procedures.
- Ensure documentation, including drawings are updated and maintained as per client document management procedures.
- Liaise with & assist client onshore Telecoms department.
- Liaise with GSOC Team Leader, Maintenance planner & other platform personnel ensuring a high standard of communication.
- Assist & supervise vendors or other third parties as required.
- Take in hand and manage the procurement and maintenance of spare parts, consumables and associated materials etc. in line with client spares strategy.
- Assist other departments/personnel as required (within reasonable capabilities of the position).
- Preparation and submission of daily and weekly reports to clients Aberdeen office, indicating work carried out, status of equipment and services, usage of major spares, etc.
Radio Operator Scope:
- Provide support for EMERGENCY situations. (Maintain a ‘State of Readiness’ at all times). Member of Emergency Response Team, (ERT).
- Maintain Radio watch for all helicopter flights – Assisting with logistics as required.
- Additional adhoc Radio Op duties as required.
- Routine operational duties in the Radio Room using typical equipment.
- Control over the issue, use and return of hand-portable radio inventory.
- Update and administer operational administration documents under the instruction of the platform management.
Requirements
- Experienced in a technical role.
- Good knowledge of most typical offshore Telecom/IT equipment.
- Must be an effective communicator. The ability to communicate clearly in an emergency is an essential component of the job.
- Operation of marine and aviation radio equipment. (General and Emergency)
- Excellent verbal/written communication, listening and diplomacy skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills is required.
- Strong interpersonal / relationship skills with the ability to work well with a wide range of people, including executive management, in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Telecoms Related HNC (ONC if very experienced)
