Primary Purpose of Position:
The Tobacco Farm Life Museum Manager directs a staff of specialized and technical professionals engaged in promoting the understanding of North Carolina History through collection, preservation, exhibition, and educational activities at a regional branch of the North Carolina History Museums. This position is responsible for general administration, day to-day operations, planning, developing, marketing, and directing all aspects of the museum group’s institutions. Museum Manager sets standards and best practices, ensuring that established national and international museum standards and best practices are followed and adhered to.

Master’s degree in History, Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Management, Education, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and
four years of progressively responsible experience in planning, directing, and managing all aspects of a business, governmental program, a museum, or a public historical program or institution;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Section/Unit Description:
The Tobacco Farm Life Museum (TFLM) is a regional section of the North Carolina Division of State History Museums. Its mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the cultural and agricultural history North Carolina and the state for the education of present and future generations. Through exhibits and educational programming, the museum raises public awareness of the past and its influence on the present.
Division Description:
The Division of State History Museums collects and preserves artifacts and other historical materials relating to the history and heritage of North Carolina in a local, regional, national, and international context to assist people in understanding how the past influences the present. The Division interprets the state’s history through exhibitions, educational programs, and publications available to the visitor on-site or through distance-learning technologies. The museum division also includes six regional museums at Elizabeth City, Fayetteville, Beaufort, Cape Hatteras, Southport and Old Fort.
