Job Duties

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

This position is based out of State Farm Work Center. We are looking for a transportation operator to transport food products, meat, raw and processed milk, commodities and equipment in a safe and timely manner. Ensure prompt and accurate delivery of milk and other food products while maintaining inmate custody and public safety. Provide support to Agribusiness farming/crop operations on an as needed/seasonal basis.

The VADOC Agribusiness Unit is charged with providing agricultural training opportunities to inmates in an effort to enhance re-entry and reduce recidivism, while reducing food cost for VADOC.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. Valid Driver’s License. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A). Maintenance of vehicles for transport. Demonstrated ability to operate heavy duty trucks. Demonstrated skill in customer service and teamwork. General knowledge of farming and agricultural production. Demonstrated ability to follow direction and supervise others in all aspects of modern farm techniques and technology.

Additional Considerations

Tanker endorsement and milk handler’s permit, or ability to obtain both within 60 days of hiring.
