RAF Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultants (Medical Officers) play a vital role in ensuring personnel are fit and ready for action in the UK and when deployed on Operations overseas. A rare opportunity has arisen where we are looking to recruit to this unique role.We are seeking a motivated individual looking for a new challenge. The individual must have a CCT in Trauma and Orthopaedics and be in a substantive post (or have an offer of a substantive post). They should be registered with the GMC and be on the specialist register. Ideally, they should work in a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) or a busy Trauma Unit (TU); have completed, or be willing to complete a trauma surgery fellowship and can demonstrate they have aptitude for military service.The individual should partake in a generic T&O on call with regular generic trauma lists and can demonstrate engagement with appraisal and revalidation. They should have a sub-speciality interest that is commensurate with military service, and an interest in general adult trauma. Finally, the individual should be up-to-date with DBS checks and able to demonstrate an appropriate CV and employment history with no issues or probity or clinical malpractice pending.As a Royal Air Force orthopaedic surgeon you will work in the UK alongside NHS colleagues to maintain and develop your specialist expertise while providing advice and support to military healthcare teams looking after the specialist needs of the Royal Air Force – requiring an interest in the aviation environment. You will train for and deploy on operations worldwide, with Royal Air Force and other military hospital teams, providing high quality healthcare in diverse and challenging circumstances.
