Urban Farm Assistant (Summer 2026)

OUR TEAM: The Land & Natural Resources team is a small, motivated group of individuals who take pride in maintaining safe, productive, and beautiful landscapes for our Promega community. We work closely together on campus grounds maintenance and food production, supporting one another in our daily work and professional growth.

YOUR ROLE: As an Urban Farm Assistant, you will support our agriculture team in greenhouse and field production, vegetable harvesting and handling, and seasonal landscape tasks. This role is hands-on and outdoors, requiring flexibility, attention to detail, and a can-do attitude. You will also collaborate with our culinary staff to support campus dining needs with high-quality, fresh produce.

This is a full-time, project position from April through mid-October 2026.

JOB OBJECTIVE: Assist the Agriculture Operations Specialist with daily vegetable production and grounds maintenance tasks to ensure healthy crops, safe food handling, and aesthetically maintained gardens.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Perform vegetable farm and greenhouse tasks including seeding, transplanting, trellising, harvesting, washing, and packaging produce.

2. Carry out routine landscape and grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, and trash removal.

3. Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance through cleaning and routine service checks.

4. Maintain clean, organized, and safe workspaces.

5. Provide support to the Land & Natural Resources Manager and Interior Horticulturist as needed.

6. Participate in large-scale seasonal projects (infrastructure improvements, preservation, grounds care).

7. Demonstrate inclusion through words and actions and maintain accountability for a safe workspace, treating colleagues with kindness, curiosity, and respect.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma, or relevant education such as a degree or coursework in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field, or proven work experience that ensures readiness for success in this role.

2. Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Previous experience in vegetable gardening, greenhouse work, or farming.

2. Experience with power tools and equipment such as string trimmers, lawn mowers, ATVs, and tractors.

3. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to work on your feet for extended periods.

2. Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

3. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
